    Hello everyone!

I was wondering if anyone has purchased a notebook/laptop from Xotic with the paint jobs done to them. If so I would love to see some pictures and hear your opinions on how good the quality on them is.

I am going to purchase an NP9262 with pretty much full options on it (I am dropping around 5k on the machine). I have a week or two before I can order it and up until now I was going to wait for the Alienware m17x. However I am currently hearing a LOT of good things about Sager/Clevo in general as far as customer satisfaction and build quality goes. So why get an Alienware with medium support, bad shipping, and secrets everywhere when I can get a Sager/Clevo with a custom paint job which will end up looking better?

I appreciate anyone's questions, comments, information, opinions, and pictures.

    Thank you for reading.

Thank you for responding Gophn. All those examples were listed on their website already. I was hoping to see a little more and hear from personal experiences with them. Although, I do appreciate your efforts. I am just excited is all. Today is my birthday (not why I'm buying the notebook) and me finding out about the custom painting was some much needed good news.

wow those are freaking nice.... I do not get why people would go get a VoodooPC system with a 1000-1500 overcharge, when you only pay $300-400 for a nice custom paintjob through a vendor like XoticPC.... that sells the same notebooks.

Thank you for responding so promptly to my thread as well as my email Justin. One other question that I have is do you remove the logo of the branded notebook/laptop in the process? I see in those pictures none have the logo on the backside. I appreciate and thank you for your interest in the matter.

By default we do a fill where the logo is and make it smooth. If you prefer we not do a fill we can keep it the way it is and the logo in place. :)

Thanks. It did not take me too long to make, but I was really hoping for a template or whatnot so I can show more closely how I want it to look before letting the Xotic artists have a go at it. There are a few specifics that I want and would really love it if I could play a bigger hand in designing it. Obviously not necessary, but it would be nice.

Relowe, the objective part of me likes it, but the subjective part doesn't. I would prefer it to look cool without any obvious customizations.

Thanks FTB. I appreciate your opinion. This notebook/laptop will mostly be kept around the house. I have another notebook/laptop (Dell D820) for mobile working. So mostly it is just something for eye candy for myself. I am assuming that is why you prefer it not to look as unique.

Relowe, I like it being cool with more a subtle paintjob. That's just me. Obviously it would look cool, but I would just paint it black and have some more subtle lines on the lid (preferably white ones).

I agree about the combination of the 5793 Orange Trim with the Orange Painted Display. It matched the trim very well. If I remember correct, we used the same Orange that you see on the new Chevy Avalanche's - Burnt Orange I think it was called. :)

One thought that ocurred to me would be to modify the hood/shroud graphic so that it looked a little like sheet flames (in very subtle, deeper reds that worked with, but wasn't identical to, the reds in the skull's face) but at the appropriate places hardened into the edge/highlight elements necessary to define the skull's hood/shroud. If I had more than the duffer's skill at graphics, I'd try to give you an example of what I'm thinking of, but I'm just a duffer. However, the third notebook that justin@xoticpc originally posted had what looked like monochrome red flames on the top, which might serve as a starting point.

A question Justin... on that particular M570RU, did you paint over the aluminium cover on the screen? or did you replace the alu first?

    :notworthy:

Nice graphic work. That is getting closer to what I was thinking about - unfortunately I don't know if I can describe well enough what I saw in my mind's eye earlier. I think, though, that the hood/shroud color should be a little different from the skull color - maybe more like the dull gowing embers left on a mostly burned log in the fireplace - the deep red/orange mix grows slowly out of the dark mass-ness of the blackened charcoal layer it sits in/on.

Also, maybe another analogy would be to construct the hood/shroud as a veil from the aurora borealis, in fire-ember colors, and then, instead of having the veil continue up to infinity like the real aurora borealis, it gets curved over from front to back to form the hood-shape, and the "roots" of the aurora borealis that would typically be highest in the sky (and would thus be the starting points where the first particles are beginning to interact with the atmosphere) would then become the "roots" of the hood/shroud as it grows into visibility out of the dark/black mass-ness of the background.

In terms of actual painting, I wonder what doing an underpainting coat of red would do to the entire composition?

I'll have to give it a shot myself (just to see how badly I can monkey it up :D ) this weekend.

ThePhantomGnome: Photoshop. I'm not an expert or anything, but I know what I am doing. I took the base laptop picture from one of the previously painted laptops and added my own (not my own but you get the idea) graphic on top of it. Changed it around a little, skewed it, changed colors etc.

Shyster1: I really don't think my Photoshop skills are that good. :p

i think i would go for someting with http://www.teedesign.com/John/image/Sturgis_evil_clown.jpg for the head facing the other way

with some matrix style body with a white outline and the rest of the laptop like a black or dark colour and on the inside of the laptop i owuld have something like the image shown above facing forward^^

of course I wouldnt be expecting any warranty

    thoughts Justin?
and if you can get spares, when I get round to modding my machine
and this is a "just in case" , just in case I break anything spares would be useful :)

^^ It can be selected when a machine is ordered.

The $89 option is for a skin only (no paint). You can do custom images on both. :)

so... a skin would go over the panel? is there a difference in quality? basically i'm trying to figure out why I should buy a $249 job. Sell it to me justin! haha just kidding but no, i'm probably going to be interested in the m860TU and you'll probably be selling that so...

^^The paint is better because it has deep layers of clearcoat over top of the design. The skin is a vinyl application that is glossy, BUT not as glossy as a paint job. The paint also covers more areas of the machine.

The skin is usually done on the back LCD (A Panel) and on the wrist pad (C Panel).
