EDIT: NVM. It was an error on my dad's side, not xotics. They get a big thumbs up from me for all their support and helpfulness.

You should try checking with your bank too to see if your check has been cashed. Note: I am having almost the same problem as you except that the check is cashed but no update on the status >.<
-
PM or E-mail Justin@xoticpc, he'll prolly find this anyway once he sees XoticPC, but hes always returned his e-mails and PMs... justinn to the resccuuuue
-
Have you tried PMing Justin@XoticPC or emailing them? I usually PM Justin first and if he don't reply after 1 day then I will email them which they usually reply very quickly.
-
Yea, this doesn't sound like them.... I have never dealt with a company that's as personal as XoticPC. It seriously feels like they take their time to read and personally answer every email I've ever sent them. I have sent them all sorts of convoluted emails and every question gets answered.
I ordered my Laptop Sunday night. Monday morning, i got a confirmation email. I sent my check in yesterday and today i got upgraded to step 3 ( sent to production). I seriously suggest you drop Justin an email like these guys suggested. You could go with another company, but you would spend more money and get less personal service. (except for these failed phone calls so far....) -
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
Nongan, please contact us by phone, PM, Email, Chat etc. We are available in multiple avenues to contact us. We answer the phone up until 5:30 CST.
On a side note paying via check takes longest out of all other payment options. All checks have to clear before it is shipped. -
everytime i have called xoticpc, i have spoken to justin.. so im not sure what would be the problem....they are in CST...what time zone are you in?
i placed my order for a 5790, and then got notice the 7950GTX was back ordered. i upgraded to the 9260 that same day. without further notice, the 9260 was at my doorstep within a few days..i got the notebook BEFORE i got the tracking number...i cannot praise justin and xoticpc enough..they have amazed me. -
Yeah, because if a check doesn't clear you can just cancel it before they ever get the money. So it's like they never recieved the payment until it clears.
-
im in the exact same predicament n i talked to them today n the guy said its been taking 1-2 weeks for them to receive checks and to call back friday or monday
-
I'm having much of the same problem. I mailed a check on August 4th and it hasn't reached Kentucky yet, apparently. The woman at Xotic told me last week to call back on Monday, when they were closed. I got ahold of someone this morning and they still haven't gotten the check.
I called the US Postal Service to see if I could confirm that the check is still on its way. They said they'd call back in the next "24 hours."
OH. They answer until 5:30 CENTRAL. Was that why they weren't picking up for you, Nongan? The guy today said to call back at 4, so I called at 4 PDT and got no answer. lol!
I've been worried all day that someone stole the check out of my mailbox or something. I'm not worried about foul play on the part of Xotic. I'm more apt to blame the government for losing my mail. -
Yeah, I"m pretty much ready to blame the government for everything too.
-
I called Xoticpc today and had my order changed, Very helpful. Even called me back just like they said they would
Also about a week ago i Emailed Justin and he was very prompt in returning my emails. If you cant get through to them the first time... call them back. As you could assume theyare busy -
I can't believe that in this day and age of technology, some of youse are still writing checks. When I make purchases such as these, I use my credit card. And guess what, many credit card companies will give you a whole year warranty on the purchased product as well as theft protection. Not too long ago, I bought a Canondale mountain bike. It was stolen from my garage a month later (garage not attached to house). The credit card company covered it! All I needed to do was send them the police report.
-
I'll get my insurance through www.safeware.com, so i dont need the credit card companies help. Besides, you save like 100 bucks using a check at most of these resellers.
edit: If my laptop doesnt ship today, I guess I have to cancel my order and I'll never get a Sager 5790 =( -
-
-
I use my credit card and not have to buy insurance. -
-
I can understand a wire transfer, or money order but dealing with checks is a hassle for business. I own a business and I do not accept checks simply because there are too many crooks out there trying to pass bad ones and too many people who don't keep up with their bank accounts ending up writing checks that bounce. Also having to wait for a check to clear before initiating or completing a business transaction is a pain in the derrier when you have supplies and inventories to keep track of.
-
But whatever. We saved $45 by sending a check. -
There's always paypal's e-check.
-
$45 bucks and having to wait several days to the check to be delivered (unless you overnight it, which means it's now really a ~$30 bucks saving) AND waiting several more days for the check to be cleared before your orders can be processed...
But hey, $45 bucks IS $45 bucks...whatever suits your comfort level. I personally prefer the credit card route. Plus if something were to go awry with the company you ordered your stuff from, the credit card company will go to bat for you. I once made a $4000 purchase online (sort of like the flawlessnotebooks.com fiasco) around the time when the owners of this crooked company was about to pack up the bags and run. I phoned them day and night for 5 weeks in a row. Luckily, I made the purchase using a credit card and they recredited my account in full. Didn't lose a single penny. Now had I paid for it by check and it's already been cashed, FORGET ABOUT IT! No way would I have ever gotten it back nor would my bank be sympathetic about it. -
Whatever. It's my choice. My laptop wasn't $2000, so the warranty wouldn't have applied. I don't mind waiting a few days, either. As long as I get it eventually.
-
Whatever floats your boat. As long as you're happy and got what you want, that's all that counts. -
Also, whomever sends a check should at the very least send it via UPS or FedEx (or USPS express mail) so that you get a tracking number and signature confirmation of receipt. That way at least you'll have a paper trail showing that it was actually received (or not, if it goes missing).
Additionally, anyone who uses a personal check to pay for a large purchase like a $2,000+ notebook should at least be familiar with all of the different hurdles that have to be overcome before the reseller you sent the check to actually has cold hard cash in-hand. Keep in mind, most of these hurdles are put in place to prevent fraud, which is rampant with personal checks.
First off, if you sent by regular mail, it could take several days to get there, and lord help you if your letter ends up in the hands of Newman the mailman from Seinfeld (see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newman_(Seinfeld) ).
Second, once the reseller gets your paper check, he'll probably check first with one of the check-specific credit reporting agencies (e.g., TeleCheck) to make sure that you (that is, the person who's signature is on the check) don't have any reported "issues" with checks - that might take a little bit.
Third, the reseller has to present the check for payment to his bank. Banks will generally not give a commercial account credit for a presented check, and certainly not for a big check, until the check has been honored by the bank on which it's drawn, and the money due has been credited to the presenting bank through ACH. That takes several days. First, the bank is going to want to double-check on the fraud issue, second, the bank is going to put the check into the ACH system.
Fourth, the drawee bank is not going to just honor the check without verifying that it really does appear to be a legitimate check - small checks that fit your typical spending habits will generally get only cursory inspection, but a big check that is way outside your normal spending habits, and that is presented for payment by a bank located hundreds or thousands of miles from where you live, will get a more thorough inspection. Again, that can take some time. It should be noted that, just to make sure that there are actually sufficient funds in your account to honor the check if it turns out to be real, your bank may pull the funds from your checking account before it actually decides to honor the check.
Fifth, if the drawee bank is satisfied, it will accept the check for payment and honor it, basically approving the amount for debiting against its ACH account.
Sixth, once ACH nets the days' crossing payments, the reseller's bank will get credit for the amount, usually at the end of the business day. The reseller's bank will then credit the reseller's account for the amount of the check on the next business day.
Finally, keep in mind that (a) some bankers keep some weird hours, e.g., they might cease doing business at 2pm so that they can balance their books for the day, and (b) nothing happens unless its a "business day" - namely, a day on which the bank is permitted or required under federal or applicable state law to conduct banking business. So, at the very least, Sundays are always out, as are most federal holidays and the state holidays for the state in which either the presentee bank or the drawee bank are located. In terms of state holidays, even if its not a bank holiday in your state, if it is a bank holiday in the other state, nothing may happen because the next step has to be taken by the bank in the other state and, whoops, they're closed for the day.
Adding it all up, it can take anywhere from 5 business days (1 calendar week) to 10 business days (2 calendar weeks) or longer, for all of these different steps in the payment dance to be taken, and it's only when the last dance-step is completed that the reseller gets his cash, and that is the earliest point at which any reseller, other than an idiot, will part with merchandise as valuable as a notebook computer.
Add to that the number of days it can take the post office to get the regular mail from where you are to the reseller's office (3 to 5 business days, i.e., up to one calendar week) and you could easily be looking at three to four weeks between the time you put the check in the mail to the time the reseller is willing to start assembling your system, testing it, and handing it over to the post-office/UPS/FedEx for delivery to you, which can take another week or so unless you paid extra for two-day or overnight delivery.
So, all told, if you send a personal check to a reseller using a 41-cent stamp, and you didn't order expedited delivery, it may be six, seven, eight, or more weeks before you're opening up the package containing your new notebook.
All of that rigmarole, in a nutshell, is why people are willing to pay a little extra, even $100 or more, for the convenience of payment by credit card or wire transfer, and overnight delivery. -
Xotic called me earlier to say they have my check.
-
Please disregard this thread. My dad called today, and it was an error on his part, not Xotics. From the feedback I got back from my father, Justin was very professional, kind and helping. Thumbs up to Xotic....definately where I'll buy my next lappy from.
-
That's good to hear, Nongan. I've never bought anything from Justin/XoticPC myself but I've asked him plenty of questions over this past year. Justin has always been graceful in answering all of them very promptly, by the following day at the latest. I'm sure he's wondering, "when's that guy gonna buy something?" LOL
XoticPC....what the hell?
