I'm looking at a Sager np9170 from xoticpc and am stuck deciding between the:

17.3" FHD 16:9 "Glare Type" Super Clear Ultra Bright LED Glossy Screen (1920x1080) (SKU - S1R506)
    17.3" FHD 16:9 "Matte Type" Super Clear Ultra Bright LED Matte Screen (1920x1080) (SKU - S1R401) ( + 30 )

This is not the 72% NTSC Color Gamut matte screen or the 90% NTSC Color Gamut glossy screen, but just a comparison between the base glossy screen and the slight upgrade matte one. I like matte screens better in general and $30 seems definitely worth it but I don't want a screen that's not as good just to be matte.

    Any feedback appreciated.

I have heard no complaints about the regular matte sceen on the NP9170 (although I don't own one). If you want less reflections and like matte screens go with the matte option. If you don't mind reflections and feel like glossy screens look better (to be honest I never notice a big difference in quality) save $30 and go with the glossy screen.

I also would like a opinion from someone who has one. My current laptop (envy 173d....anyone wanna buy it?) Has a glossy screen which while nice and bright is to glossy for my taste.

The other day I was at Best Buy and saw the Asus G75 which has the Matte screen...I really liked it. I don't know what kind it is but it looked good to me.

The matte screen is awesome if are sitting by a window, in a tropical place where the sun sets down later than usual.. or if you tend to sit in a very lit environment :p

I too have this same question, will most likely go with the Matte screen however.

My base matte is awesome. It's brighter than the AUO 1080p glossy screen on my Asus G73 and the colors seem to pop a bit more.

ive got the standard 15" matte screen and its bloody awesome. i cant see how a 72% or 95% can get much better.

My 15 inch matte screen looks beautiful and I like it so much better than the glossy screen on a mac book pro that I was using. Matte is way worth the thirty dollars in my opinion

I have the NP9170 with the "stock" matte screen... it's way brighter and more colorful than my 23" ASUS monitor, didn't even realize how much so until yesterday, haha

The matte does look better in my opinion too, especially in you like to game or use the computer in the dark or low lights.

I have the $30 Matte screen and purchased through XoticPC. I love it, it is a really good screen, especially at that price. I would recommend it myself!

My M15X alienware has the glossy. Looks beautiful........ but I hated it. The reflection is insane. That's why I got the Matte finish. Go for the Matte finish.

Plus, most people can't tell the difference unless you have both screen side by side.

The base matte is an incredible Chi Mei, which I believe is 72%. In many ways, it is superior to the 72% AUO offering.

i think i might go for glossy and buy a matte screen cover for whenever i need it, has anyone here used a matte screen cover/protector? any downsides to using them?

I have the base matte screen on my NP9170 and I have nothing but good things to say about it. Color quality is comparable to my other laptops with glossy screens (granted they are of lower quality), and it's got a very crisp picture.

While it will help take the glare out, it also takes out some of the clarity as well. The matte screens are much better than adding a matte screen cover and yes I have tried the matte screen covers on glossy in the past. I have generally had glossy on my previous Sagers, but got tired of the glare so this time I got the matte and I am VERY happy with it.

My Np9170 has the 90% glossy screen and i absolutely love it, very vibrant colors. i never have glare problems so matte just isnt for me.
