I recently had my Geforce 7950GTX die on me so I decided to save some money and replace it with a Geforce 6800 Ultra. Now besides the 7950GTX showing alot of artifacts it still booted normally until I put in the 6800 Ultra. It now only boots occasionally and I sometimes have to turn it on 20 times before it will actually boot. I had it fixed for about 2 weeks when I replaced the 3.8Ghz P4 with a 3.4Ghz P4 but it started back up. When it does boot up it works fine though and can run prime95 for days without error.
I did notice something wierd with the 6800 Ultra when I got it though, first off the fan on the heatsink didn't work so I made the 7950GTX heatsink fit. Another few things I noticed is that it looks refurbished because there are some parts stacked on other parts with blobs of solder on them and there's also a small wire going from a resistor to the edge of the card. If anyone has experience with this specific card maybe they can tell me if this is normal. I don't want to remove anything myself unless I have alot of people, or a few experianced people, saying I should since my soldering is less then great.
Luckily this isn't my primary PC anymore, my primary pc is now a massive desktop that I built myself, I won't go into specifics unless someone asks about it. I was going to turn the D900T into a server for either TF2 or L4D/2 and I can't do that if it won't restart.

I do believe the laptop is dead now. I turned on power on beep and it started beeping "long, short short" meaning checksum error meaning bad ram. So I took out the ram until I could find combination that worked but so far no avail. Whenever it does start to boot it will beep and refuse to startup so I can't even test the ram now.

Uhh... wow, that is one OLD laptop man...
But really man, I gotta ask, why did you replace a 7950GTX with a 6800 ultra in terms of laptops? That tech is really really old man, it doesn't make sense upgrading right now I think. That's just me though. I don't know what to tell you. It sounds dead to me. -
Well i replaced the video card because the 7950GTX died (now have it hanging on my wall) and didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars for a new one so I went as cheap as I could find. I believe it is a motherboard issue now but can't be certain, I'm going to do some more testing and if it turns out to be unfixable I'll just part it out since there's always people looking for D900T parts. I think the reason I keep fixing this is partly because I'm a pack-rat and also don't like owning anything that doesn't work.
Also, if Gophn is still a regular on the forums can someone point him this way, he's been able to help me fix all the previous issues with this specific laptop.before.
Yet another D900T issue
