There has been plenty of discussion, but i think taking a poll would be a good idea.

    5400 rpm or 7200?

Why not the 320gb 7200 rpm one?

The increased platter density of the 320GB 5400RPM drive will make its access times faster, so the 200GB 7200RPM drive will only be marginally faster. Needless to say, go for the 320GB HD; good performance and storage for less money.

Where are you thinking or purchasing it from? XoticPC offer 320GB w/ 5400RPM drives with the M860TU or 320GB w/7200RPM for more here. So there are resellers out there selling these different model HDDs.

As for my two cents - it depends on your use.

For those using the battery often the 5400RPM drives are the 'best.'
If not then a 7200RPM maybe better for those who can't be bothered to wait that tiny bit longer than everyone else.

Personally, I don't think the prices on most 7200RPM's are justified if your using a 15" or smaller.

A common problem is also different manufacturers having different models of drivers, where one 5400 could be preferable over a 7200 for lots of reasons.
As for the m860, atleast with the kobalt-rebrand laptops you can check the european thread, somewhere in the middle neil made a list of the different sizes/speeds of disks and what models they were to clear up any issues, I think someone was making remarks about bad models out there and he quickly snaped back they dont use bad hardware ;)

Not sure about the other resellers, but at Power Notebooks you can get 320GB 7200rpm drives now.

Agree, my 5793 is much more responsive now.

I also have a HITACHI Travelstar 7K200 which is 200gb 7200rpm and ti have a Toshiba that i got with my 5793 which is a 320gb 5400rpm. Just swapped my Hitachi with the Toshiba (after cloning) and i really cant tell the difference on my g1s. According to hd tune there about the same in speed.

Although i recommend 320gb 7200rpm such as WD scorpio black, over 320gb 5400rpm and 200gb 7200rpm. (Performance differs depending on who makes it)
