    Hey guys,

Just wondering if you think the zero dead pixel insurance is worth the $200 price tag.

    Thanks.

its actually pretty rare for Clevo's (ODM of Sager, Alienware, VooDooPC) notebooks to have dead pixels. especially compared to desktop LCDs.

$200 is pretty pricey for the unlikelihood of getting a dead pixel.

I was wondering this myself (if I should get dead pixel insurance). Can any Sager owners here tell us if they had any dead pixels when they received their laptops? Were any noticable?

    Already been discussed here also:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=1404255

IMHO the $200 Dead Pixel Policy is a waste that can be used for soemthign else.

Just think about it this way.

I sent my 5760 to get RMA for a piece of Dust that was inside the LCD Screen, cost me $150 for Overnight UPS Delivery.

The only thing that the $200 Dead Pixel Guarantees is that Sager will pay for teh shipment of the laptop to them and back to you.
IF you somehow get a dead pixel, you just prepaid for $200 shipment.
I have never heard of an issue such as this happen but this is what the $200 Dead Pixel Policy states in fine print.

Sager also has a rule than within the 1 yr Limited Warranty, if there are 6 or more dead pixels anywhere, they will replace the screen.
They also stated that if there are ANY dead pixels in the very middle quadrant of the screen they will fix it if its within 3 mths.

Then of course you can also use the Trump Card: "30 Day Satisfaction Guarantee".
IF For whatever reason you do not like your product, you can get a FULL Refund!

I live in NY and Sager is located in California.
Cost me $150 for Overnight UPS Delivery to Sager and they paid for the 2nd day Air UPS Delivery back to me.
$200 Sager Dead Pixel Policy ONLY Covers 3 Day delivery both ways.
Get what I am trying to say here?

I bought a Sager 5760 from Powernotebooks.com. My laptop was configured with the 1920x1200 screen.

The screen is beautiful. No dead pixels. No issues with the screen to date -- had it roughly three weeks (only a few days in my posession).

I don't recommend buying the dead pixel insurance. I did not.

shoot. Now I wish I had not paid for the dead pixel policy. my system would have been 2550.00 loaded if It wasn't for the dead pixel policy that I bought with it. I just figured that if I got dead pixels it would be worth having the policy...

now I see that it is just a marketing scam. LCDs with dead pixels anywhere should not be allowed to leave the factory.

I was t=even told by brian at flawless computer that it is a waiste, but I went with it anyways based on my experiences with apple warranty service in the past, and because I will be staring at it all day every day.

I probably should have saved my money or invested it in another upgrade for my system.

Don't feel too bad, I think a lot of us feel for this ploy. Wish I had seen this thread before purchase.

I think it should be standard that all lcd's have a zero dead pixel policy.

for most of the Clevo resellers, it actually is... kinda. All notebooks gets checked out before they get shipped to the customer.... so they should be able to see visible dead pixels before letting go out.

Compared to what we put up with from Microsoft a dead pixel here or there is nothing.

    Have to realize this.
EVEN if you get the "Zero Dead Pixel Insurance" it does NOT guarantee 100% that it will have NO DEAD PIXELS upon arrival.

Standard = They check the LCD for problems, including Dead PIXELS
ZDPI = They do an extra check for Dead Pixels.

There is still a small percentage chance that you may still get a Dead Pixel with the ZDPI, it even states it in their ZDPP!
    http://www.sagernotebook.com/pages/notebooks/parts_info.cfm?ProductType=NOPIXEL
Worst case scenario, you save $50 (and also get your laptop back faster) for sending it to them for replacement if you do get a Dead Pixel in your laptop within 30 days if you do not get the ZDPI.
(This is if you use UPS Overnight delivery to them and 2nd day Air back to you.
It cost me $150 for Overnight UPS Delivery from Westchester NY to Sager and Sager paid for 2nd day Air delivery back to me when I had to return my 5760 for an issue)

    Summary:

No ZDPI = $150, 3 Days travel time (1 Day to Sager, 2 Days back to you)
With ZDPI = $200, 6 days travel time (3 Days to Sager, 3 Days back to you)

I purchased the ZDPI from Hypersonic for 100, just to get peace of mind (to have to go through the rigamarole of sending it back, being stuck with my Inspiron 8200 for 3 weeks +) so if you can get it cheaper, it's worth it to my mind - after all, what could be more annoying than putting up with dead pixels when you unpack and turn on your new lappie? $200 seems too ridiculous though. Economies of scale and the costs of total quality management would seem to dictate it's cheaper to let a few lemons go through (whoever manufactures lcd's - I think there are still only two main ones).
