As we know,P870DM and P775DM have a power supply port for gtx980.After comparison,i found that there is circuit designed for the power supply port in P751DM,but the port was not soldered to the motherboard.and i also heard that some versions of P770ZM have these ports soldered.

this is a P751DM.as we can see, there is a power supply port without welding in the red frame.
and i heard that P770DM's motherboard is the same as P750DM'S.so i think it has the same port too.

this is a P775DM with a power supply port.it seens that its motherboard is the same as P750DM/P770DM'S.
    WP_20150911_002.jpg
Remarkably,P750ZM doesn't seem to have this port.Because it is useing a different motherboard.
    82618eb1cb13495480dfe9b8534e9258d3094a63.jpg
and these is a P770ZM-G's motherboard.Obviously its motherboard is the same as P750ZM'S.
so sadly,P770ZM-g might not have this kind of port.Someone tell me his P770ZM has same socket,But I can't confirm it.i I had guessed P750ZM and P770ZM are using the same motherboard.SO If it is convenient for you,can you check it?THX alot~~ :)

ANY WAY~this is all my guess.and i won't be held responsible for any consequense.LOL~~ ;)

Just because the connector isn't there doesn't mean it isn't powered. There's lots of revisions with motherboards, but all share a common base and the pcb tracings don't affect costs (the components do). Check the blobs with multimeter; you may be pleasantly surprised.

If it isn't powered; check if capacitors (and resistors/relays) right after the connector have been omitted as well, if they have then you could use the P775DM Service Manual and find out which components and values you need to get the P751DM port working. Shouldn't cost more than $5-10 for the smd parts.

Thanks for the explanation~~ :)so there is a great possiblity for p7X0DM to use GTX980 i think. But i have not found any ESM of p7x0dm.hope someone will release then.lol

The ZM won't have an aux power port as it's design pre-dates the desktop 980 class series design.

I wouldn't worry about the GTX 980. 980M is more than enough for 1080p games. For 4K gaming I wouldn't want a GTX 980 anway, I'd want a GTX 980 Ti at minimum. So I'll wait a few years for GPU power to catch up to 4K gaming at a reasonable budget.

Also for the P770ZM without a proper cooling solution for a GTX 980, let's wait and see what advances Pascal brings and if ZM can be upgraded to a Pascal. The 4790K will be more than enough power for a few years, Skylake 6700K is 5% more powerful, though it does run cooler.

so does it means that"considering the new GTX980 card,we have designed a port on the DM series' mobo?lol"i wonder does all of the DM series can use GTX980.As for ZM series,Prema saids"I am sure getting power from from somewhere on the boards of the other systems won't be the problem."so i think i might be able use it,but not without modify. ;)

You also forgetting the GTX 980 is NOT the same size and shape as your 980M. So again need a heatsink that fits the GTX 980. Not so sure the 775-DM heatsink will fit in the 770ZM.

So you bought a $2K laptop. And going to replace your $900 980M in less than a year for a GTX 980, another $1000+ GPU when Pascal will likely be released in less than a year, and may exceed, seems to me most likely will exceed GTX 980.

    For 1080p gaming. 1080p, a GTX 880M is good enough for 1080p...

/me scratch head in confusion... makes no sense to me.

yes,you are right.gtx980 has a lot of excess power for 1080p but is not enough for 4k.a wretched state :p.and P770ZM doesn't have radiator which is strong enough for GTX980.so waiting for Pascal might be a good idea.
and ....i have heard that the heat maked by 6700k is harder to transfer because of the smaller core area...is that ture?it seems to means that 6700k will be hotter than 4790K. o_O

OH YES,I have not consider the shape of the card, the are many versions of gtx980 and and i think it might be possible to install the card designed for P775DM to P770DM. :(

I don't know about 6700K. But to me Clevo needs ot seriously think about making direct to die heatsinks for CPU. It would biggest improvement. Delid the desktop CPU and heatsink direct to die.

oh yes, that will be much cooler.but i heard that delid the desktop CPU will void the warranty.so i think that might be the reason why they didn't do that.

I don't think if Sager was the ones delidding the CPU that they would void their own warranty lol....

Deliding is just so difficult to do at 100% accuracy no place could offer a warranty on it after doing it, as they would be out to much. (manufactures can turn around and claim them with intel)

intel does indeed provide warranty for their cpus :) they even offer an overclocker warranty, u pay 25-40 bucks and u can smoke up a cpu and get a replacement for free from them :D

Sponsors will usually provide high end overclockers the chips for free ;)

It's quite common for overclockers to be given trays of chips to test and pick the best clocking samples from.

    I know 8pack tests 100s of chips.

Yes i know, just the idea of overclocking extremes at home made me think about that :)

Note - if you delid, then it voids the warranty. If you lap, it voids warranty. So, if you don't do the most valuable parts to lower temps, you can smoke the hell out of the CPU. But, the second those mods are performed, nothing!

Also, has anyone checked if there is power, and if so, what voltage, goes to the plug under the plastic lip above where the GPU is, to the right of the CMOS battery, seen in the final image of the OP?
