"I think the GPU is busted" says cpt.obvious.
But the thing is that the GPU temp was at 89C on furmark when things went black. So, is it the chip or the Gpu Mobo? If it's the mobo, any advice on whether I can get it fixed?
The laptop does "turn on", Fn+F1 turns the fans to max but after the first bios beep, the laptop just keeps beeping every second. All three LED lights flash.

It may have shut off for thermal protection and wont turn back on right away to continue with that protection. Since its been several hours since then does the computer turn on now? 89C is pretty low though, was the the CPU temps at?
Have you cleaned out the computers fans and vents to get optimal temps recently? -

yes, i did the furmark test a day after i repasted the gpu (I've done it quite a few times before) and cleaned the fans and vents very well. The only difference this time was that i also replaced the sticky thermal pads that sit over the gpu-mobo. i dont think i did anything wrong there, but I could have.
Which is why i suspect that that fault is with the gpu-mobo and not the chip itself. I couldn't find the mobo alone anywhere on ebay so guess that road is a dead end.
Is there anyway i can determine what is actually working and what is not-working?
and thanks for your reply. -

Sounds like you're comfortable removing parts. I would try reseating the GPU, CPU, and removing RAM and using just one stick in at a time to see if its that.

If what Hutsady recommends doesn't get the system running, you may be able to get the GPU running again with a reflow, but that's only if the problem is with the solder joints/board.

All these days, I had assumed that the 485M chip would be removable from the board like how the processor is removable from the motherboard. So, I thought you wanted me to reseat the chip, and then I understood that I had to reseat the GPU "board". Did that and no effect.
My conclusion is that the gpu is broke and unless I buy a replacement (which for this card is pretty expensive), I won't be getting this laptop running again. So, thanks for all the help and your time.I've decided that I'm going to sell the parts off one by one locally and move to desktop gaming for a while.

Bake using an oven the GPU.
Pretty sure your problem will be fixed

So long as you make sure it is dry before using it, it makes little difference.
