i cant decide between wsxga an wuxga. i leaning towards wuxga for the design and architectural work i do /photoshop, 3ds max, cad.../. i have read some threads where people say its too tiny for web browsing which i need for my work too. i also read about sparkles in wuxga res. what exactly are those sparkles? i am talking about sager 5720. i know i can customize windows /enable large icons, toolbars and fonts/, but is there any way to enlarge fonts and toolbars on websites?
thanks

I am also hesitating between WUXGA & WSXGA. Ive found a "clone" in sweden wher I live but it only comes with the WSXGA. I get the feeling that WSXGA is pretty adequate for gaming since its good to run games in "native" resolution and that the WSXGA puts les preassure ont the GPU(?). But in all other respects id prefer the WUXGA.
Whay do you fellows with WSXGA think? Are you happy? ;-)
I dont really have much choice.. unless i go for the WUXGA-version from Pctorque..pretty much moore complicated..

I love my 5720's WSXGA+!!! A co-worker bought a 5720 w/WUXGA. He's a database super-geek and writes all kinds of code. We set up our notebooks side-by-side to get a good look at the differences. My friend really liked my screen a lot, so he returned his 5720 for one with WSXGA+. He thought WSXGA+ provided plenty of screen "real estate" for coding while being easier to read (i.e., no "squint factor" on mine). I also thought mine had the brighter colors. And, yes, for gaming the WSXGA+ is easier on the 7800 Go.
Hope this helps! -
why don't you just take a screenshot of your screen jack and post it on here, and someone with a wuxga+ can do the same, then problem solved right?

like I said in the other WSXGA+ vs WUXGA thread, I find the WSXGA+ on 15.4" (same as the WUXGA on 17") to be very comfortable viewing. Now if this model suffers from the "sparkles" on the WUXGA then I'd steer clear of that resolution for sure.

I use Firefox for web browsing and set the screen font a notch higher for better readability. In other browsers you need to change it for each website.
Other applications like MS Office aren't dependent on screen resolution since they size automatically. This should make the higher resolution appear sharper for the same size document.
For games you can set the resolution to WSXGA and the WUXGA screen scales very nicely and it's not badly affected by running out of native resolution. In fact I can set the screen resolution down to WSXGA and it's hard to tell it's not native. -

The WSXGA is absolutely perfect on this machine in my opinion - more screen space without being too small. I think a higher resolution would strain my eyes, although I admit my eyes aren't 100% the best.
I've heard some people complain about the brightness on this computer (5720) but to be honest it's not something I agree with - out of the box, sure, it could be a tad brighter but knocking the screens brightness up a couple of notches with Fn+F9 made it absolutely perfect for me. Beautiful screen - very crisp! -
I recently actually got a look at a dell with a WUXGA screen. the text was indeed tiny, but it was also clear and easily readable. I still imagine most people would prefer WSXGA, as it'd be easier to focus on without really looking. Myself, I love screen real estate very much. Probably go WUXGA.
edit: was looking at 15.4" screen -
let me ask you this...... what screen resolution do you use on your desktop(if u have 1)?
all this talk about "tiny" letters has me a bit concerned. i run my desktop at 1280x1024. and occasionally at 1600x1200. so im hoping that these "tiny" letters arent too tiny at all.
would absolutely love pics or screenshots.. -

I have an SXGA 17" LCD I hook my laptop to when I am at home. My Sager 15.4" has a WSXGA+. If you can use the SXGA res, you should be just fine with the WSXGA+ - my opinion, but the two screens look pretty similar in terms of text size.

I use a 19" CRT at 1600x1200 (highest it'll go
)
compared to that, text was significantly smaller, but still easily readable, and the normal text on the wuxga was easier for me to read than abnormally small text on my CRT, since that monitor isn't as sharp (probably partially the kvm switch's fault... or that time i dropped it...)
It is small though... I'd try to see one in person if I were you. I imagine the majority of people would prefer a WSXGA.
I know you can resize text too, but that sounds like a hassle. heheh. -
ive never owned a laptop.
i know its probably a pain, but could somone post some pics or something......... please?
since i dont plan on buying another laptop anytime soon after this one, i dont want to make a mistake ill regret. -
I have a inspiron 9400 with a 17" WUXGA with true life screen. I use it always at full resolution 1920x1200. Well, at first the words look kinda tiny, but it's ok, the advantage is that you get a lot of space for many windows and icons and so forth. When the other people say that its to tiny, not human readable, but for me no problem
. I do research, graphic works, and also play games life battlefield 2 and doom 3... no problems!(even with the almost outdated geforce 7800 go) I havent seen the wsxga screens but I can asure you that if you life space and amazing colors(for pics, DVDs and games) a 17" WUXGA will not dissapoint you.
By the way I have since February last year, (bought one of the first ones) and its doing very well, for me al least.
another wsxga vs wuxga
