Pshh, 9800m, what you should be asking is when the mobility 4870 will be available ;). Why would you want to upgrade your 8800m anyways? Way too early imo :p. And to answer your question, no, not to my knowledge; pcmicroworks had it on pre-order for a while on the Edge, but took it down due to the chassis not supporting it. I believe the card's eta is July 31st.

Mobile 280 will not be for a while. They got to get down to the 55nm first before they can begin thinking about creating a model for notebooks. Too big, too hot, too powerhungry. I'd say at least 6-8 months before we get a GTX2x model.

I'm not sure that the ETA is July 31st, but this was its ETA back when it was available on the Edge laptop at pcmicroworks, and I'm guessing they didn't pull the date out of their... ears =P. The card is said to support sli, so the real question is what notebooks will support sli configurations of it. M17x? maaayyybbeee. The most likely candidate is looking to be the NP 9262, which still reigns king =P. As for NVidia being king? Well, I just hope you're not one of the unlucky ones who got an overheating 8600m gt... Also, although directx 10.1 is said to be a complete sham, it's just because NVidia's downplaying it since their cards don't support it (ie mobility 3870 or if you want to wait for the 4870 might be a more futureproof choice). NVidia's going to bring in the DX 10.1 card, in which case they'll be saying how much better their cards are. Maybe DX 10.1 offers little that isn't already in most NVidia cards, but to make use of the software of DX 10.1 it is required to have ALL the hardware specifications; so even though you have all that cool stuff in your NVidia cards now, it won't matter much later on down the road since it won't be used anyways since you don't have a couple things necessary to make DX 10.1 work.

the 3870 is not stronger than the 8800m... however the mobility 3870x2 IS stronger than the 8800.. just a rumor, no release date.

Dont wait for the GTX280M... the 9800 is going to be the next 7950 (as in, a POWERFUL, LONG lasting video card) in laptop market.... it wont be replaced until the GTX's make their way in, which emike09 wonderfully explains will be some ways off. D901c with 9800M SLI BABBAAAY!

I guess everyone is curious about how the 3870 is supose to do in real life, but I have a bitter taste thinking about it, the card is not going to do anything.Plain and simple.

The 9800M GTX will not be replaced, when it's offered, for at least a year. :D I don't count on any technology lasting more than a year without something faster and better showing up!

Can you let us know why :(

I'm pretty sure its 'specs' were better than the 8800M when I compared them both from what I saw on their websites. I've only owned ATI Desktop cards, so I've taking a liking to them.
