Does anyone in this forum play dota2 with a P170SM? Do you experience any random packet loss & stuttering? I'm trying to figure out (before I RMA) if the issue I'm having ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/net...ag-spikes-games-p170sm-w-ac7260-gtx-770m.html) is just this laptop or if it spans across all P170SM notebooks so that I know what to do going forward (getting a replacement/different laptop alltogether)

Your P170SM is probably having network issues, no way it's hardware. My old W860CU plays Dota 2 mostly lag free with a 720QM, 6 GB RAM, 280M at 1080p. Dota 2 = modified Source engine, aka it doesn't need more than like 4-5 year old specs.

I understand this. Which is why I'm asking if anyone else has the issue. If you would actually look at the post that I linked, you might have a clue. If you don't have a P170SM to compare with, please do not post in this thread.

Personally, I haven't played DOTA2 on a P170SM but some of the teams we sponsor use P503s (P157SM) and we also hosted a DOTA2 competition last week with x20 P503 - all with a similar spec to your system, or with 780M. These ran flawlessly with none of the problems you have described (considering P170SM is basically the same internal platform as the 15" versions). But, we were of course using LAN and not WiFi.

If you have a look round the internet, other DOTA2 players have experienced very similar problems with WiFi connections i.e. people who play on WiFi and have no issues with any games apart from DOTA2 in which they experience spikes every couple of minutes. It mostly seems to be with Intel cards, but as they are the most commonly used this isn't surprising.

Unfortunately, the only fix may be to play over LAN - it's not something that is related to any specific laptop model or manufacturer but it is something specifically related to playing DOTA2 over WiFi.

I actually just managed to get my Netgear WNA-3100 wireless card to work stutter&lag free! (the same one I've been using on my desktop while playing dota2 flawlessly for 2 years now). So, off with the intel card. The lag, btw was not just in dota2. It was directly at the connection from my Intel wifi card to the router. Pinging the router resulted in ping spikes and packet loss. Thanks for trying to help though!

A good test for hardware or network issues is to try an ethernet cable and wire it in.

That was something I confirmed day 1, as stated in the post I linked describing the issue, but thanks!
