I want to buy this (base model) for 1444$ with W7 and removed second hdd.
Anyone have this machine? How You like it? Any problems? How reliable are Sager laptops? Do this laptop have illuminated keyboard? How about fan noise and heat?

Quite a few people have it, yes. No problems for the most part. They are very reliable and you get excellent support from the resellers. No, this laptop does not have a backlit keyboard. And your fan noise depends on your usage, as well as your heat, but Clevo's have excellent cooling systems.

Yep, this laptop is awesome. As said, no backlit keyboard, and the fan noise is minimal because of the cooling, but the fans will speed up and speed down constantly. There's no fix yet, but it really isn't that noticeable.

Oh, and that site you are going to buy on is great. ;)

I think it will be awesome...

I dealt direct with Sager after shopping the web sites... it went like this:
Last Wednesday evening I sent an email with an inane question or two, Thursday morning a got a polite and thorough response, then a little quick chat, a phone call. Placed the order by noon, a phone call saying it would build this week. Friday evening I got notice it was on the UPS truck, close of Monday it was delivered... now I have a 6 hour drive to the mailbox. :)

    Awesome Service!

I would say NP8170 is a steal for it's price. My laptop was delivered on May 20th, no fan issue like other suggested. Fan running at steady low rpm consistently unless I activate full mode. (maybe Sager fixed the fan issue in newer fw?)

Heat dissipation is great, the laptop barely feel warm during load.

The build quality is average, same level as MSI, Asus and Dell Inspiron. Definitely not as good as Apple Mac Pro, Sony Z, M17x r1, or Dell Precision. My complain is the cheap plastic used for the chassis. Also the hinge doesn't appear to be very promising either. It is fine if you plan to use it as desktop replacement. But for road warriors, you better buy the 3 years warranty

I have had mine for about a month now and I love it. The build quality is excellent and it shreds the games I play on it.

Before I purchased my Sager I read a lot about the fan ramping up and down constantly. Mine does not and my GPU temp under load gets to about 70C.

No, the P170HM (8170) has two hard drive bays plus an optical bay. The two hard drive bays also support RAID.

I just found out my p170hm allow raid array to be built with a disk from sata 2 port (ODD) and the other from sata 3 port (0/1 HDD)... Which means all three disks can be on one array... I always thought it had two independent controllers. Guess I am wrong!
