hi guys,i just get 6970m and i want to ask you what kind of program can i use to oc my card??
and if somebody oc already his card, what is the safe numbers(clock, memory)?
results?(3dmark 06,3dmark11)
thanks![]()

I use MSI afterburner but i have an Nvidia card, to be honest i have no idea if it will work with ATI/AMD cards.
-
Try Sapphire Trixx. I have yet to test it out but I heard some people got a stable 800/1000 OC on stock voltage.
-
thank you guys!!!!
-
i put my clocks (800,1000) and i run 3dmark06
Result
is it good result? -
Its good yes try 840/1080.
Tell me heats and temps and all other infos please cheers. -
both my 6970ms do 850/1150, i know that the cores wont go any higher than that and be 24/7 stable. more voltage is needed. memory is going well beyond 1100 though.

I'm not familiar on ATI cards because well... This is the first time I've owned one. With nVidia cards you get to OC shader, core, and memory and shader has the biggest result. With ATI cards I got confused when they allowed me to only increased core and memory. Does overclocking the gpu actually have an impact or increase in performance with these cards?
-
i try 840/1080 and i get this result
Result
no diference!!!
why? -
and i also get
Result
my temps are 79 max(runing 3dmark11,and 3dmark06) -
I'm currently using 830/1050.
My memory simply can't handle 1100MHz. -
Those results you have, guys, are impressive! I wish i could see someone with x7200 and CF doubling them)
-
Look into the X7200 Benchmark Thread, I posted some results with OC.
The problem is, I can´t go that high with the memory. Some Benchmarks run with 1000, but at Vantage it crashes with just 920.
I even changed the cards - master/ slave, but with nearly no effect. And the cards are not ES anymore.
I haven´t try to do some OC without CF, but maybe I will do that to see if the problem is with CF.
To tell the truth, I am NOT satisfied with 6970m CF.
Many crashes, driver problems etc. (from BSODs to black screen, flickering, stuttering etc.)
I can´t say if there are no problems without CF, but it is really sad you have a monster machine and can´t play every second game correctly... -

There are some games like C&C 3 or Red Alert that have problems without Crossfire, too, it seems driver related.
SW Force Unleashed 2 runs ok without crossfire, but crashes with. NFS Shift got many problems with crossfire, runs ok with one card but you have to reduce the graphic settings or the resolution then... Some games run good with older drivers and not with the newer and so. Really annoying... -
-
I have tried Shift 2, doesn´t work proper all the time, Crysis 2, flickering, etc., with the newest drivers.... right now on 11.5.
Dirt 3 runs very well as Dirt 2 runs very well!
If it would be an PSU issue the PSU should shut off, but that ain´t happen.
I think it´s more of a driver crossfire problem.
Funny thing is, I only did use nvidia cards the last 2 years, and read not the best things about crossfire, and I thought it would be EXACTLY as it is right now.... it is not expensive, but not stable either... -
One example:
Shift 2 was flickering and crashing. Then with 11.4 there was an Application profile, and it worked better (crashes after some gaming, but not as fast as usual, and FPS raised from 20 to 50+! - playable at highest settings)
Then updated to 11.5. And there was a new application profile for Dragon Age 2. Great - I thought. But after installing that, Dragon Age 2 didn´t run any better than before, BUT Shift 2 didn´t work anymore like before at all... back to 20 FPS and blue screens... Yeah. Great, AMD... -
^ Similar to Tirenz.. Overclocking didn't help to much with Dragon age 2 at all.. It's actually one of the only games that can't run at a very high setting even with AA off.
What I was wondering was, does overclocking have different effects on different applications? I remember being able to overclock to very high clock while playing Dead Space series, however with certain games like DA2, and Left 4 dead I was very limited in overclocking since it would crash if I did even remotely! -
Wow, i didn't beleive CF could be that bad... Now i see why people pay premium for 485 SLI. Hope the isuues would be fixed in near future

There's a difference between the 6970M Dell uses and the one Clevo/Eurocom uses; The Dell/AW versions use Hynix memory modules while the Eurocom and Clevo versions use Samsung memory modules. Not sure if that explains why some Clevo 6970Ms can't reach 1100mhz memory frequencies while you're seeing almost all OC'd AW systems reach it fairly easily.
Tirenz, have you also tried using RadeonPro to help edit/manage profiles and such? Sorry to hear that you're having issues with your system. Lately, both CFX and SLi are having problems with the more recent PC releases. -
@ichime
Thanks for that info! Thats makes sense- +1
Yes, I use RadeonPro and it helps sometimes, especially it´s good for using only 1 card when it crashes with 2 cards, but it didn´t help much with Shfit 2, Crysis 2 etc.
The thing is, you can try something with application profiles, then with RadeonPro, then with new driver, and always there is a new problem that didn´t appear before. -
Shift 2 doesnt have xfire support according to amd, they are waiting for the shift 2 devs to make an update for it. Do you have the CAP3 installed?
-
I used a cap at 11.4 that worked in so far that I got at max settings 50 FPS... after installing 11.5 and the newest cap, it didn´t work any longer...
-
You mean Shift 2 unleashed?
Max FPS with single card is something about 30+ when all maxed out, but the lowest is about 16-18 then.
With 11.4 and the cap that worked with it the max FPS was about 55 FPS. I did use fraps to see the framerates.
Right now with 11.5 and Cap 3 I didn´t try Shift 2, because I am frustrated because of the crashes I´ll get sooner or later... maybe I give it a try this evening with the new cap 3.
