What are the forum thoughts and experience on self-builds with Optimus?

I have been looking at the W150HN based models available from Sager, etc. My issue is I already own a Win 7 Pro license for the machine I'm retiring, so I don't want to buy another. I have read you can't run the stock nVidia driver for Optimus you need the manufacturers customized driver instead. Poking around Clevo site, there's not much info. There is a driver download section but this model is missing maybe its too new. Actually for my purposes the Sandy Bridge iGPU is probably is enough I'm just a power user mostly audio and photo editing no gaming. I doubt I need the dGPU, but this is the only model with the other features I want eSata, USB 3, 15,6" FHD screen. Perhaps I could just disable the nVidia...thinking out loud here :)

Any thoughts on all this or other model Optimus self install experiences?
    Cheers.

Yea all that will work just fine. For optimus drivers, just make sure that you are using the latest version of the drivers from nvidia for the chip you are using. Optimus is now "baked" in so to speak to the main driver tree. If you are looking for a price on something less than a complete system please PM me and I would be glad to help you out on that. Self Builds / Installs are pretty easy with all the clevo's even the optimus ones.

Thanks for the note. I looked at your site, but your W150HN Optimus model (Pollux 1411) starts at $1041 with standard FHS screen. That's almost $200 more than the identically spec'ed Sager. What's the extra $200 for, just warranty?

Hey the price difference is because we build them from scratch, so our pricinig is differen't which sometimes means we are a bit more and sometimes we are a bit cheaper and it allows us to have many more options for the laptops as we can use any compatible components. . Also all of our components are all Kingston/Corsair/Seagate you won't find any a-data memory, or fujitsu or hitachi drives in our laptops. Also yes we have a 4 year warranty with technical support. Also all our laptops are hand built and hand tested by us for over 72 hours before they ever get to you, using the same validation tools that intel uses when they prove their motherboards and cpu's as we are a direct Intel partner. So overall our component prices are a bit different and we put a lot of labor into building each machine to make sure that its ready to go, and we've done our best to kill it and then replace the failing components before we send it to you.

Thank you. It would be helpful to the customer if the brand name parts options were noted in the configrator.

Can you talk about the 15.6" 1920 x 1080 anti-glare displays you are offering, since you seem to be the only reseller who has this option, unless I'm missing something? How does the saturation, viewing angle, etc compare to the standard screen? Does it look "washed out"? I do a lot of photo editing.

We will note the type of parts here soon, thanks for the suggestion

Also for the Anti-Glare options, I can send you the datasheet on it if you would like, just PM me your email address and I would be glad to send it to you. But we have two options basically the B156HW01 V.1 and the B156HW01 V.4, the difference being is the V.4 has less brightness but better color-accuracy, and the V.4 is more money.

    Thanks!
