How much battery life could one expect on this laptop if it came with an i5 and a 460/5870m?

If battery life is a concern for you, DO NOT buy this model. Rough estimate: about an hour in power saving mode with max downclocking.

Those asus rigs are nice, and they're built with more mobility in mind. This generation of Clevo's are just meant to be DTR first and foremost. Better cooling and components over battery.

You really should get a netbook if you need battery life.

No, there isn't. These aren't meant to be used without an outlet, that's the niche they're marketed for. If that kind of portability is important to you, there are many other options out there.

there was a thread a couple of months ago for a few external batteries that work with the 8690. iirc the batteries connect to the power adapter socket, have high mAh but cannot be recharged, and are not small.

They never actually found one that could supply the required current if I remember correctly.

The only way you will ever get decent battery time is if you have a laptop with (working) switchable graphics. Having a Dual Core will help but not by much at all. The NP8690 is all about power and unfortunately they didn't see switcheable graphics as a priority.

However, I would not avoid buying it for that reason because it is such a great model. I would either buy an extra battery or try to source an alternative or contact some one who makes custom batteries.

I'm typing this on battery now, because I just found out the 3rd 180w adapter I bought (1 for home, 1 for work, and one for travel) is a dud. After about 35min of surfing in power saver, I have 23% left.

ok, is there any external battery that will connect to the 8690 in any way? like, through the power adapter or what?

edit: i know the 8690 is essentially a portable desktop, but still, one can hope for external batteries...
