    I swear we've had so many threads about this....

    The vents arn't aligned but the vents are over the HDD so provide extra cooling for the above average HDD heat and keep the temps far better than without, i don't rly use my laptop without cooler because of the HDD temps. + It means i don't have to worry about covering the laptop vents.

    The NC2000 seems to be the best cooler overall but I'm trying to compare it with other coolers and I can't find any information about the dimensions of the vents on other coolers. It seems only X2P was nice enough to provide this information on the NC1000/2000. The vents of the M860TU are spreaded on the whole surface of the panel. One that would cover them all would seem to be better, although as De@thknight said, one that doesn't cover it all (e.g. NC2000) can still do the job really well.

    btw when i said it wasn't over the vents i meant the main one for the gfx card / cpu fan. For the other smaller vents its actually pretty feel alligned for the majority of the vents on the underside of the laptop.

    If you have the laptop on your lap with the notebook cooler you don't have to worry about covering up the intake for the laptop fan as with the laptop on the notebook cooler its on a flat surface, not your legs meaning you don't have to make sure your legs arn't covering the intake for the fan. Ofc the notebook cooler fans might be covered but this is no where near as important as the main laptop fan intake :p

    Sorry bit wordy but i cba to cut it down as i'm about to go to sleep :p

    Alright, lol. Correct me if Im wrong, so what you are saying is that I can also put the laptop + Zalman cooler on a couch and the effect would be the same as the combo is placed on a flat surface?

    its would still be better than an average flat surface since the Zalman surface is fully aluminum and cold to the touch. :)

    if you want to use your notebook on your lap and still have getting good cooling, maybe consider a cooler that is good and specifically made for that:
    - Cooler Master Infinite.

    @Gophn

    But the cooling capability of the Zalman is better than the Cooler Master Infinite right?

    If I use place the laptop + cooler on a couch, would I need to worry about the fans getting covered by the couch?

    a notebook cooler is as efficient as how its airflow is lined up to the bottom of the notebook (fans and vents)

    the Cooler Master Infinite is designed to not be affected by the blocking of the bottom, since it draws air from the back.

    ah. but using the zalman nc2000 on bed, for example, would still lower the temp. of the lot just as not as effective when the cooler is on a flat surface, am I right on that? I mean, it does not make the laptop hotter even though it is placed on a bed?

    http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw?url=search-alias=aps&field-keywords=zalman+nc2000

    Its was at around $40 on Amazon few weeks ago.

    Since I don't really use it on my lap, and I can live without the cooler when on my lap, I would personally prefer the Zalman since its more conveniant, like the USB cord is insde.

    Or you can build your own that way you can put your fans directly under your vents :)
