hello, first post but longtime lurker

I'm trying to make my post as short as possible as I'm typing on the windows on-screen keyboard.

yesterday I installed the latest bios and kbc (as found here in this thread) on my black-hawk xr5 and that seriously messed up my keyboard,
azerty became azretd or qwerty became qwretd, a bunch of characters became mixed up. So are the numeric keys, arrows, shift etc
what i figured out is that the kbc update messed up the 101/102 settings, revert didn't help and so was reinstalling the AP-KEY

CAN YOU FEEL MY PAIN? and i need to work tomorrow

Please help if know how to fix this, thanks

thanks for the reply but i don't think this will solve it updates aren't supposed to mess things up i thought ... any one around here ever updated a black-hawk xr5 ? Maybe i should try and install the original bios again if only i knew what the original KBC version was again

    1 & 2 don't respond
on 3 the start menu opens

upper numbers & characters became like this

    &é"'(§è!çà)-

Shift - Ctrl - Windows key and Alt - Alt Gr - print & Ctrl don't respond as well

so you're saying i should try and install a vista kbc file on a xp system ? when i bought it there was no bios or kbc file included on the driver disk. PCMW only gave me a bios update on a usb stick when they send me my second video card (6 months later). are you sure i wont screw it up more with a vista kbc file ? thanks for the suggestion :)

Thank you Thank you theriko, the vista kbc file solved the problem !!! if you lived closer i would buy you a few beers !!! i did what i thought was right though, installing xp files on a xp system. maybe its because i use a azerty keyboard eurocom or PCMW installed it with the vista kbc i don't know, most important is that im back on track and can start recovering 3 day of work i didn't do !!! maybe this should be added to the clevo guide or bios flashing thread !!!

    thanks again :)

It is to do with the type of keyboard that is installed, not the OS, if your start menu key has the vista style orb on it, then you have a 'vista' keyboard

unfortunately almost 2 weeks later i still seem to have some issues from during the time i was trying to fix this mistake.
I did a windows repair and that seemed to have created some conflicts on my firewirebus and HD's.
I have 2 HD's out of 3 that are stuck in MASTER instead of SLAVE, only one should be Master i asume.

I was wondering if i can fix this without starting from scratch, i mean backing up my stuff, format and install a fresh XP and start tweaking again etc.

I prefer not to but if i have no option i will, takes me a couple days o get it back where i want though.

Uninstalling the intel chip sets and reinstalling didn't help.

I hope to find another way.

the HDDs do not have master or slave when in SATA.

master/slave has not been done since the IDE days with daisy chains and jumpers.

now SATA drivers are either in a Primary SATA or Secondary SATA channel.

check your Disk Management (in Computer Management) to see if the drives are there or not.

thanks, yes there all 3 there and healthy.
I was wondering if it's normal that on the C drive under hardware - properties - general, the device usage is blanked out and on the other 2 drives it says use this device (enable) if this is normal i have to start looking else where to find out what is conflicting. thanks

they look all fine in the bios, it was actually a Sisandra report that said two of them where in master mode. but i found a few other things in that report that showed wrong so i deleted sisandra.

if your BIOS sees them fine, then its a software issue.

... or your missing HDD(s) are not properly partitioned/formatted (which can be determined in the Disk Management).
    - if the drive does not have a drive letter, then thats why you cannot see it in My Computer.

I had random blue screens while gaming in sli mode, so I thought to update the MB, my last version was 17 then I found the update thread and though to give it a go, but the new nvidia drivers seem to have solved that... so the MB update wasn't actually needed. but i know the term If it ain't broke don't fix it !!!

If I had know right away that I needed the vista kb driver I wouldn't have done a windows repair. This has actually done more wrong than good and I'm trying to fix all of that without formatting and a fresh xp since that will take me a couple days to get it tweaked again and everything I need installed, not to mention all my audio applications new licenses request and crap like that.

I'm an audio engineer and pro audio software has strict anti piracy stuff
going on, so reinstalling a system means a couple days of hell on licenses and tweaking...

Anyhow my main issue now is a hardware buffer underflow on my firewire buss, something seems to use its resources, a HD stuck in pio mode could also be the reason but it's not showing up in pio, though with xp you never know.

Just finished reinstalling my main audio application and hardware, the first test looked good but ill have to see how it goes during work tomorrow, in the worst case its a full system reinstall...

    Cheers

possibly a software issue, the HDD(s) are partitioned/formatted well, everything worked normal for the last year and half. drive letters are ok as well.

I just found out that IE8 (without running) was conflicting with some of my audio plug in's in Protools (daw) not sure why but a quick google showed that others were having similar issues with it. anyhow i'm done for today time to get some sleep.

    cheers
