Hi, My system drive is a separate SSD, and i've been using a 750gb hdd as storage in the caddy in my p150hm, then it turned out to be defective. so I received a replacement drive from Malibal today.

I'm assuming this drive is brand-new and has to be formatted or something, but when i set it in the caddy and boot up, I dont even see it listed in my computer. I see it in the intel rapid storage utility in the systray, but I dont see any option to format it there. What do i do?

i want to know too. I am getting a new hdd from malibal soon too.

i dont know what to do with it after i get it. all i know is that after i stick it in the hdd bay. (P151hm) i thought i just install win7 and drivers and thats it?

do i need to do formatting w/e stuff? how do i do that? this will be the only hard drive that is in the laptop.

Edit: since im going to install win7, will the formatting message come up during the installation?

if its gonna be your boot drive, then yeah. just as what you described. stick it in, install win 7, and drivers. it will automatically be formatted by the win7 installer.

anyways, back to my drive, i can detect it in the BIOS, in the intel utility, in crystal disk info, in seatools, and even in device manager, but doesnt show up in my computer! how do i format it? or if formatting isnt the problem, how do i get it to show up?

Run Windows Disk Management to give it a drive letter, format it, partition it, etc. That should do it.

As gwilled said, a new drive will come raw and without formatting. You'll need to go to start > right click Computer > manage > storage > disk management. From there you can right click on the drive and format it. Windows will automatically assign a drive letter, but you can always change it. It should show up in My Computer then on it's own.
