In my recent thread concerning my personal skin (please take a look and give some suggestions) there were some mentions of "burn in" time that would extend the time that it would take for me to get it. I have a few questions about this process.
If I order without an OS, how do they test it? Do they install then uninstall an OS?
If they are actually going beyond the bios screen during their test, wouldn't it be really easy to catch any dead or stuck pixels?
My (looser) friend get a alienware recently and he got a benchmark score of his system when they did their burn in test (yet he still got a stuck pixel....), so does sager benchmark it when they test?
And other then those stuff mentioned above, what other tests the laptops have to go though?
Thanks.

Yes they install an OS and then remove it later to test it.
Stuck/dead pixels are often a result of shipping to the consumer and are often unavoidable.
I doubt that they actually do a benchmark like 3dmark or something but there are a variety of tests, including memory tests, hard drive tests, cpu stress tests, gpu stress tests that I would imagine come into play at one point or another during the burn in phase.
As I have experienced, the burn-in phase is not too long. -

Correct!
However please don't assume that any laptop manufacturer guarantees you that you won't have dead or stuck pixels unless you buy a no dead pixel guarantee, or one actually comes with it. Do your research to see what the dead pixel policy is before buying any laptop. -
How often to dead pixels occur during shipping, percent wise for lets say 17" screen models or is that to big of a parameter.

There is really no way to tell how many might occur in shipping.
As long as any dead or permanently lit pixels are within the limit before it ships they are not recorded, so if 1 or more show up as a result of shipping, even if they are reported (which they rarely are) there is no way to know if it/they were there when the laptop shipped, or occurred during shipping.
"burn in"?
