The 675m is a good choice. With an i7, you will have a good backbone for smooth and stable FPS, but some high-end games will need to be played at medium/high settings for a high average with the GTX 675m. Go with that, and later upgrade as you said. If the 7970m ends up being fixed you may be able to find one for a good price.

My 6300 is pretty powerful. In my dorm I can get 2-3 bars with the university's wifi, while my roomates either can't see the signal or have 1 bar, which is unusable. However, I still use my external wireless adapter since 2-3 bars isn't reliable enough for a wifi connection. I am not quite sure how good the stock wifi card or even the other offered Intel card is. If you want more range get an Intel, like the 6300, but if you need faster upload speeds get the Bigfoot.

Overall I like the build. Standard yet powerful.

Okay cool thanks for the response. Are laptop gpus hard to get a hold of separate? I don't mind lower setting for brand new games because I imagine I'll have a big backlog of games I want to play I've never had a gaming computer before so I'm gonna start with some older games :). I'm not planning on much online gaming so I think I'll stick with the wireless card I have listed unless someone else comes in with more insight

You can find them occasionally on Ebay but other than that you will have to contact your resellers for hookups. They are kind of "underground" sales.

Although these laptops have upgradeable gpu, don't purchase with the assumption that you will upgrade in a month or so. Get the best you can afford. Buying gpu upgrades, unlike RAM and hard drives, are cheaper (vs aftermarket) when you get the upgraded components cause the vendor can mark down more with such expensive parts.

Gpus aftermarket are pricey. $430-560 for 7970m and $650-800 for 680m. Say you sell your 675m for $250-300, you're not really saving any money. And that is if you sell the old card. Why not enjoy the awesome performance from the get go if it will cost the same in the long run? Plus, no hassles of shipping, repasting, warranties if used, etc etc.

    These are my thoughts :)
