i am using samsung 1600 and now running at 1866. just want to know if anyone tried oc to 2133 without changing the timing?

Impressive yours managed to, often they don't. Not too much to be gained though, tight timing 1866mhz is more likely to be stable and offer all the performance.
-
i just read this test it seems oc is more effective than tighten the timing?
What is the best memory for Haswell? From DDR3-1333 to DDR3-2933: performance scaling test - X-bit labs
and the best oc+timing i can find about this samsung ram is this.

Haswell does like more band with than ivy yes.

How do I go about doing this for the 16gb of ram (not sure of brand name) in my p170em? Intel extreme tuning utility?
Sounds like 1866mhz is what I'd go for as I don't want unstable. I've never adjusted ram before, and from this post, sounds like I can go about this a couple different ways?
Sorry if this is thread hijacking. -

Trial and error the timings basically. Follow any ram tuning guide.

The ram was getting hot?

System too unstable?

blue screen after an hr.

It won't be heat then, it will simply not be stable at that speed. It's likely the IMC rather than the modules.
-
I heard changing slots can help but too lazy to do this. Still testing with memtest now.
-
It became unstable at 2133 after failed to boot at 2400. Regret.

If its unstable at 2133mhz now it always was. It was just a matter of time.
-
Have to stop at CL9. CL8 failed memtest.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
That's pretty normal to be fair. CL8 is very tight.

I find stability to be a sliding scale, really depends on how much you need/want of it. If I'm benchmarking, then as long as the system is stable enough to pull through the duration of said benchmark I'm happy. The most I'd do is run XTU stress test for 5 minutes and if the system passes I move on. For daily use I run stock settings, and for gaming I only use a mild OC which I know to be stable from past experience.
...wait why am I rambling again?
Back on topic: even with the magical set of GSkill ram that was a good silicon lottery win, I still can't do 1866 at CL8. The most it'll do is 1866 CL9. It'll run 2133 CL10 and 2400 CL11 though, so really can't complain. -

What speed can you hit at a 1t command rate?
-
where to set?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
If there are no bios options then you can't actually.
Not bad none the less. -
^so if there are no options in BIOS then what sets the command rate? Curious because it defaults to 1T on mine, whereas it seems to be 2T on this guy's P170EM.
-
what I know only prema mod can choose either 1T or 2T BIOS before you flash. cannot change after flash

4 sticks = 2t -
Right, missed the part where his was 4x4GB and mine 2x8GB.

It's a common auto setting as it covers most if not all cases quite well.
can 170em oc mem to 2133?
