Hi, I'm new here
I want to know is it possible to install the latest nvidia driver 266.58 on my NP8760, this is my first time updating my video card since sager doesn't release new driver anymore.
If yes, then can anybody tell me how to do it properly
sorry for noob Q, and thanks in advance

hi and welcome to nbr
we all have to learn sometime and i was just like you 3 years ago so no worry, thats what we are here for.
all depends which graphics card you have as theres been a few hiccups with the 400 cards with a few members.
firstly what drivers are loaded at the moment.
go start > control panel > nvidia control panel > bottom left system information > right hand side driver version.
once we know that i can give you a step by step walk through -
hi MrDJ, thanks for your welcoming greet and reply
my card is gtx 280M, and I read the article that they have new physx driver for 266.58 update, is it beta release? (I mean the physx driver) -
the physx comes incorporated with the drivers so if they are whql then the physx will be as well.
you can get a list of the latest drivers HERE
dont forget to change the 32/64bit to which operating system you have.
to install the new drivers follow this guide.
-
wow, thanks for your thorough guide!
will try this right now, one question, do I have to uninstall the old physx as well?
cheers for the help mate -
i havnt done in the past but i thought id try it this time to see if it made any difference and i dont think it did, lol. so you can uninstall the physx or let the driver install do it for you.

Ok, I'm doing it right now until the step where I need to restart the system back to normal mode (right after unistall driver on device manager)
after it goes back to normal window, windows automatically installs the driver (where you see the notification popup on the bottom right corner) and it tells me to restart again, but I haven't run the actual nvidia installer yet, what should I do?? is there a way to stop/ prevent windows to automatically install the driver?? -
no you need to keep pressing F8 key until it takes you to safe mode.
so press restart and as it turns off and then on again press F8 let go press f8 let go press f8 let go etc etc
then it will go into a black screen and highlighted will be " do you want to start in safe mode" press enter/return key.
once that has run everything on your screen will be big. then you click driver cleaner -
yes mate, I did that. sorry if I didn't tell you clearly
well, from your instruction:
- Press F8 on startup and go into windows in safe mode.
- Run driver cleaner and select NVIDIA drivers.. then clean.
- Go to the control panel > system> device manager > graphics card. Right click on any present and click uninstall
- (I'm on this stage) Restart the system and go into windows normally. Install the NVIDIA drivers listed above which you put into a temporary folder
and then windows automatically install driver right after the loading screen, (notification on the bottom right corner like when you install new hardware for the first time)
what should I do? ignore it and run the actual driver that I've downloaded?? -
at work now so a bit manic.
whatever shows in the bottom right ignore.
go to the folder you downloaded and click on the new driver and follow the instructions there and once theve loaded post back if ok. -
great! i've done it
I've test some of my games and they run without problems so far
sorry for the trouble and cheers for the help mate! -
your welcome. glad it worked out.
another couple of updates and you will be able to do it with your eyes closed.
can I install nvidia 266.58 driver on my NP8760??
