Hi guys,
right now i have the greek version of p151hm1,and i put the 6970m.
i have the i7-2720qm now,but i found a good price for the i7-2920xm.
which is 2.5-3,5.
the question is if im going to buy it,can i overclock the cpu?
i saw the origins system, that they have i7-2920xm (overclocked at 4.5)
thanks budys![]()

Yep, it's the only Sandy Bridge processor that is overclockable.
-
you can, via the bios. i'm uncertain if you can using a program like OCtuner. and can i get a link to the good price on the 2920xm? lol. unless it's on ebay or something, in which case go for it!
-
If the i7-2920XM you're looking at is an ES model (Engineering Sample), do your research to make sure it has temp sensors, and has a late stepping.
-
i founted for about 750$,its about 540 euros,shiping include
so its ok then...sure?
thanks -
Hold up..
You have a P151HM, two things are going to NOT let you OC the proc
1) The chipset inside HM65 doesn't support overclocking the CPU
2) That 120W PSU you have won't support much more power =)
The only two Clevo notebooks that support CPU oc'ing are the P170HM and the X7200
thanks -
i have the 180psu(6970m)
but we have problem with chipset?
well ok.
thank you -
i'll waiting for the 2960XM.....

Yes, the P150HM and P151HM1 both have the HM65 chipset which have the same limitations. The P150HM has a larger powersupply, but that's because the GPU has a TDP of 100w and the CPU 45w, which on their own come out to 145w (without counting in the screen, memory, and drives). There just isn't that much headroom in terms of power leftover. -
As a matter of fact I have a ES2 (early version) 2920xm 2.4GHz-3.4GHz, fully OC'able with temp sensors. Only cost me 300$. There's also a more advanced version (Qualification Sample) of the XM ~780$ which is the same as retail version. I'd still go for the earlier release due to price and uniqueness, lol
Very good points, M8. -
I was just wondering, i have a P151HM1 with a GTX 560m (75w) and the 2630QM (45w), now that equates to 120watt on its own (again without counting in the screen, 16GB memory, and drives) and my PSU brick is only 120watts. How does that work? Wouldnt my unit be deprived as the GPU only uses 25 watts less then the 485m/580m and the power brick is 60 watts less. Doesnt add up to me?

the 75W / 45W numbers are indications of the thermal design power, meaning the amount of heat the cooling system would have to be capable of transporting away from the chip in order for it to run inside normal parameters. thus, the TDP is not the actual spec that gives u the power consumption of the component part.
cheers -
Yeah, I like to think of it as a ceiling, not the power that the CPU is always running at. That's why the 2920XM is rated at 55 all of a sudden from the other quad cores, so there's breathing room for OC'ing.

So as I understand it:
a 2920XM will WORK on any HM65 chipset, at base speed (independent of BIOS support?)
However you won't be able to control multipliers aka OVERCLOCK it?
edit: I guess so, a review here used a xm in a hm65 -
Hi to everyone.
I want to buy an 2920xm, but every laptops (between 1500-1800$) have the HM65 chipset.
Is there any way to make OC with this configuration?
Thanks!
can i overclock i7-2920xm
