I can't seem to get the backslash key to display the correct character on screen, all I get is ~ & #

I got the laptop from the US which keyboard layout do I need to use or is there some other solution?

kb should be default windows KB = US standard KB
you can choose your own region and time zone

mine is set to US KB and Australia and GMT +10 (Brisbanne)

you should be able to delete any KB drivers and device and let windows find it again and load default windows drivers.

if this doesnt help you may have faulty hardware

did the "lol, nvm, figured it out" not give you a hint that he might have worked that out himself?
