sorry, i don't like making threads like this,
but i remember one forum member here stating that he was canceled his pre-order on edge by pcmw and was still awaiting his money i believe.
did you ever get your money back? quick and painless?
this might help me jump on the pcmw boat even though im still alil skeptical.
-
I think his choice was affected mainly by the parts he wanted. I think he wanted the quadcore and 9800 which are no longer available so he was basically lied to. Ask yourself what parts you actualy want in the system. If you just want a regular laptop dual core and 8800, I would personally feel safe about purchasing from them.
-
that was me. just got my money back on tuesday. it will take about 1.5-2 weeks for them to wire the money back if thats how you paid
-
I had no problems, except that the dollar became even more useless from the time that i had paid and the time of my refund, so in the bill of bank charges and euro exchange rates, i ended up with about 100dollars lost to the black hole that is the economy.
-
lol, I found that really funny for some reason... Sorry for you loss, but its still funny.
-
Funny thing is, if I had paid my money the week after I did, I would have saved like $60 US dollars. The rates of the US just dropped and haven't gone back since. (I paid when it was 6.29TT to 1 US and now its been around 6.23-6.25TT to 1US)
Such a piss off, but the compensation packages have MORE than made me forget that

Hey doodles.. how awesome is FIOS.. I have the 20 Down 5 Up package...
Dont think I need that 20 upload.... What do you use your upload for? (I dont harly ever need to upload anything) -
off-topic lol, but you asked. The 20-up was a free upgrade for the first 3 months... after the first 3 months its like 17 dollars more. But i do ALOT of gaming. Even tho the Up dont matter for that, the ping does. the milliseconds of lag... gaming is def faster....
-
????????????????
-
W/E info your sending to the server CANNOT be 20 megs big. And its going to take it the same time to upload a 250kb info as it would for a 20 meg info if you have 20MB/s. So unless you're on some private tracker, then you're just wasting money.
-
ill try and put up my speeds so you can see how bad ireland broadband is
-
Mine isn't all that much better.
-
For gaming its all about latency, the ping.
You can have a 20mbps upload and download and still be getting 600ms in a server and getting wasted. Just look at Comcast. Or at least, in the past.
Hold on to the order suj, everyone is getting the laptop within the same time, but some people will get more stuff for what they pay for and others will get bare minimum. Who do you want to be? -

I'm ALWAYS for the bang for buck ratio! But I gotta wait till monday to ask them some questions though. Kinda sucks they have a sale but no email answers....
-
Bang for buck is all well and good as long as the bang is there in the first place...
-
what questions did you want to ask? perhaps some of us have already asked them and can give you answers.
-
Well its to confirm the student discount thing and then how to get it. I would also like to know whats the shipment date in their eyes and on their site, it says the ram is 1333, but I'm pretty sure the chipset only supports 1066, so I'm curious about that too.
-
WRONG... its not a waste of money... I already stated the 20 UP is useless, just for bragging rights. I dont pay for it anyway. now comes the main point that i also already mentioned....
DING DING... yep... my ping in CoD4 for average East coast servers was about 60-80... with dsl... now its 20-40 and btw... FIOS is CHEAPER THAN WAT I PAID FOR DSL... SO im paying 30 dollars LESS per month.. for FASTER internet.... Thats weird, I SAVED money by doing this....
Fiberoptic signal just moves faster than a cable signal can. Remember this about internet, theres Latency (ms delay, speed if you will) and bandwidth (how much at a time, the UP and DOWN)... think of a highway, you have the speed limit and a number of lanes....
-
Your ping wasn't lowered by the increase in upload rate, just the connection in general. I bet that when they remove increase, your ping will not change.
FYI, DSL is NOT cable, it still uses phone lines, but at higher frequencies. But you are right in that fiber optics can carry many independent channels. -
I agree Suj, look at my first post...
-
yeah and the upload doesn't influence the ping very much unless its pitifully slow. I'm on my ****y horse right now after making the right bet on wimbledon and didn't feel like being told wrong, lol. I guess I'm also kinda jealous that my area doesn't have fiber optics...
-
does anyone in the workd have fibre optics installed and in use yet?
canceling order, getting money back from pcmw?
