How low or high is the probability of getting dead or stuck pixels when a laptop from PCMW arrives at your doorstep? Thanks.

Hmm, I'm not sure, but I know that my laptop came with a single stuck pixel (which hasn't fixed itself) - about a year ago.

Maybe setting up a poll would be a good thing here?

what's the reason of having dead pixels anyway? if before shipping, the laptops under go QA? And are you referring to PCMW?

In 2005 I bought an acer aspire 3000 brand new from circity and it had 1 dead pixel which was a big deal because the screen was 1024x768 on a 15"
But I wouldn't consider paying $200 for it to be fixed :p

Most companies consider a problem having MORE than 5-6 dead pixels, anything under that is considered acceptable.
Also the screen is divided into 9 parts, and the pixels have to be in specific places, close, for a replacement to be justified.

1-2 pixels may happen, but most users get perfect screens.
IF you are worried, the 200$ warranty is justified, or you can just return the system back, and change your mind if you don`t like it. And get another one later..

1 pixel would not bother me, I have 2 bright pixels on my close to 3 year old HP, but being a matte screen, you can barely see them...

My Sager however had a perfect screen, as does my XPS.

Ahh. So you can never tell when those defective pixels appear? What is the reason of the m appearing? Mishandled shipping?

No, just happens. There is a very slim chance of that happening, but it does sometimes.
You`ll find a lot of people on the forums that have 1-2 dead pixels and don`t care.
    It`s all about your need.
1 pixel would drive me crazy on a bright lcd screen, but the higher the resolution the less chance of one bothering you...

Like eleron911 said, most people won't even mind/even notice. I had a dead pixel on my old Compaq. Almost never noticed it except when I had something that was white filling the whole screen. And then it didn't really adversely affect performance, I just noticed it was there.

The HP that has 2 bright pixels is matte, and you can barely see them, unless I point them out...
The XPS has a glossy screen though, the one I recommend...

With the current Holiday sale at Sager, the dead pixel insurrance is really cheaper. But this has been discussed many times: they let you choose if you really want an insurrance or not so you can save some money if you are willing to take a risk, while other companies just includes it in the price.

For my part, I didn't have any dead pixel :)

I'm curious about something. Say you get the dead pixel warranty for $200, and they build your system for you but then you cancel the warranty before the system ships (since you're allowed to change the order up to the date of shipment). Wouldn't you be safe?

Hmm, the logic is good, but can the insurrance be considered like a feature or a change? I mean, its not like changing the screen or the CPU. But I think the extended warranty can be refunded (at least, for stores policy) so why you shouldn't be able to do the same for the dead pixel insurrance.

If you get this option, I think they check the screen for any dead pixel, and if there are any, they correct the problem. But maybe there's a chance they don't see it or the laptop gets damaged in the transit so that's why they give you 30 days. But how would you know when to cancel, between the build phase and the shipping? :p
