hi all, hope someone can advise on a little prob that i have on my 170hm...

er, i have the chassis with the 5 speakers and sub in and was wondering how the speakers are set up within the chassis. is there 5 speakers - 1 left, 1 right, 1 centre, 1 rear right and 1 rear left like an home surround system with a sub doing the bass work or is it more of a stereo system with seperate mid and treble speakers?

i have used the realtek hd prog to check the 5.1 internal speaker set up of the laptop and the test sound goes from left front to right front but when it tests the centre the test sound sounds like it comes from the left hand side of the laptop...is this correct? thought it would have been in the middle...

if poss could someone please try this on their 170hm and let me know where the centre speaker test sound comes from...

    thanks in advance! sticky

According to the disassembly guide, there are two speakers in the bar above the keyboard, and then three speakers located on the bottom of the laptop towards where the laptop lid hinges are.

Check the disassembly guide here and take a look at their locations: P17xHM_ESM.zip (Thanks to theriko for the guides)

It looks like the speakers below the laptop may be why you're hearing the center speaker play from the left-hand side, because there is one that is slightly over and to the left on the bottom.

    thanks JP!

having looked at the diagrams i can see what you're saying - centre speaker way over to the left at the botttom front of the laptop...hmm, that'll be why the centre sound is coming from the left then! hurrah! well, that saves me from keep reinstalling the sound card drivers...think i'll just cut out the centre speaker from the realtek hd setup prog and that'll take care of that!

thanks again, and thanks for the service pdf file...might come in handy for future upgrades!

    cheers, Martin
