clevo 170sm-a powers on but display doesn't power on. Connecting HDMI to external doesn't work. Holding down FN and D when pressing the power button doesn't work.

If it just stays on indefinitely without shutting down with no display, check the RAM. Might be one went bad. Try to boot with only one module at a time installed.

Didn't work. one of the activity lights flickers occassionally, If I look closely I can sometimes see the black 'glow' of the screen flicker between on and off. The capslock key lights up the proper light when I turn it on and off but still no display.Last edited: Mar 15, 2019

Did you do anything to the machine or have symptoms?
-
I was working fine in the days leading up to this. Maybe I accidentally unplugged it the day a couple days before. There was a display artifacting that may have been up to bad cables that resolved itself about a month or two ago.

Artifacts are sometimes a sign of bad video memory. You may be looking at a faulty video card. Have you tried inspecting it, reseating it?
-
The artifacts went away with adjusting the monitor than stayed away after a time. I got a suggestion that it might be a CMOs battery that needs replacing, do you think this might be it? What type of battery does the p170sm-a use and where could I get it? Where is the CMOS btw?
This might be related but my windows time lately has been way off when I restarted the computer. Maybe this does point to the cmos?Last edited: Mar 15, 2019 -

If you have a multimeter you can check it, might relate to the clock issue but not the screen issue.

cmos swap didn't work, pressing the enter button sometimes makes this electronically generated clicking sound. A bios option screen quickly flashed by when I had it connected to hdmi but then no signal again. If its the vid card how can I inspect it and where can I look for a replacement.
Is this one that will work?

What card do you have now?
-
p170sm-a 870m. The card says clevo but doesn't specify which one.

Well if they are guaranteeing support if it does not work you can return it.

If I hit the enter button over and over again I sometimes can get a boot options screen where I can select a boot device but after that it goes back to no display signal
clevo 170sm-a no display
