I just ordered a d900c from RJ tech. I have an unused x6800 cpu and thought I would give this sytem a try. Has anyone using the amd 900k model similar to the 900c found it necessary to use a laptop cooler and if so what type are you using?

    thanks

i would recommend to have a notebook cooler.

Not just for the cooling part, but mainly its a good for a notebook to be raised and be on a hard surface all the time... especially when its being used for long duration of time.

I actually do not usually turn on the fans for my notebook cooler (Vantec LapCool4), I use it with my D900K for the guaranteed raise in height and the tilt that is created for ergonomic typing and gaming. :)

I would recommend to look at the:
    Zalman ZM-NC1000 laptop cooler
--Its great if you are going to use it in a single place, but its not that portable.

    Vantec LapCool4
--I have this, and must say that its pretty solid for my uses, and VERY portable, which is great since I always have it with me in my notebook backpack.

Just things to remember for owning a high-end gaming notebook:
(these things should be a pre-requisite)
    - always make sure that its on a hard surface (preferably on a notebook cooler/stand)
    - always use the Clevo fan toggle (Fn+F2) to switch the fans speeds to MAX when gaming.
    - always monitor the temps of the CPU, GPU, etc...
    - always check for dust clogs and such

    Thanks Gophn,
This is my first experience with a clevo laptop, I am coming from an Asus w7j
which I will probably use on longer trips and lug the 900c home to be a barely mobile desktop replacment, my desktop system currently has a e6300 cpu and an nvidia 7300 graphics card, so this 900c should be faster.

I am anticipating not being able to run full power at all on battery, and hopefully this will allow 1 hour of run time.

Thanks for the two cooler reccommendations.

from experience, these Clevo D900 series notebooks have about 1-1.5 hours of batterylife... thats if its for casual use (web browsing, word processing, music listeing etc..).

I mainly cant game on battery.. except for emulators. :)

I have to be near an AC outlet to be able to have a decent gaming session.

    Gophn,

Do you use the Zalman cooler with your D900K? If so, does it hang over the edges very badly?

Actually, I mainly use my Vantec LapCool4. I tried out the Zalman cooler that my friend was using, the stage size seemed fine (compared to the Cooler Master NotePAL W1 that I bought way back, where the stage was not deep enough), the footing of the notebook fit fine.

I just like the Vantec cooler more because of its portability.

Hey blue. I use it with the 5760 wich should be around the same size as yours. The fit is perfect. The laptop feets are well inside the cooler's border. It's pretty silent, too. The only thing is that you have to get used to the increased height for the keyboard (for the screen, it's even better).
