i guess that still has to be determined, since no one has actually gotten his hands on one of these newgen cards yet. im sure that prema and others will definitely look into it though ;)

There are so many factors until someone gets one and sticks it in a machine you can't know.

Officially of course there is no support, this is why it comes down to community testing.

If Prema makes a BIOS update for it, it may work. Technically there should be nothing hardware-wise that prevents it, except maybe the way the heatsinks are shaped exactly. But if there's a heatsink for it in a P170SM-A then it should fit in a P170EM.

That being said, we need to wait for the BIOS updates to happen.

The official stance for now is: No, it's not compatible. Tampering might yield the ability to do it at some point, but at launch the 980M and 970M were not designed to be compatible with first gen SM series or anything older.

...which has already been proven wrong since prema made them compatible to the first-gen SM series ;) still working on the EM though, apparently...

Exactly what is made compatible by the community could change hour by hour at the moment so it's hard to point down exactly what the situation is. Each person is going to need to do their own research. The heatsinks from the new machines and the cards themselves with physically fit at least.

    So there is a "chance" a p150em can support 970m or 980m?
I hope this is true, I have a feeling my 7970m will die soon and need a replacement..

If this happens I'll donate a whole beer crate to Prema

right now the best thing u can do is to donate to prema, since hes troubled with three(!!!) bricked dev systems, thus unable to do much magic for the community...

As it has been previously stated, with Prema's bios it's plug and play, excellent value upgrade with the 970M for instance.
