Could someone post some photos of GPU heatsink for 8970M? Is it a single piece, or two pieces? Would a single piece heatsink for a GTX780 fit a 7970M in a P170EM? Could someone post some photos of the latter one too, for comparison?

Maybe someone with a P170EM/7970M has already upgraded his two-piece GPU heatsink to the single-piece heatsink? Care to share the experience? :)

    Thanks in advance.

I believe it's actually the 8970M heatsink which is single piece so it would be slot in and play.

First of all, sorry for reviving an old thread. I just got the P1x0SM GPU heatsink installed in my P170EM, I thought I'd share the experience.

Temperature drop under full load is ~8C (Folding@Home GPU client, GPU clocks 930/1400). Maximum temperature is now 73-74C, before it was 81-82C.

The fan doesn't kick in to full RPM, the laptop is quieter (running Prema Mod BIOS 2.0).

EDIT: with Fn + 1 max fan mode the maximum temperature under full load is 71C, so ~10C drop.

Yep, they have made some nice refinements to it.

Thanks to the new heatsink I overclocked my 7970M to 1000/1500MHz @ 1.025V. Furmark temperature 88C with Fn + 1 max fan on. Job well done, money well spent. Very happy! :D:thumbsup:

EDIT: Folding@Home GPU client running on 7970M at 1000/1500MHz maximum temperature 80C. :)

    Nice clocks :)

Never could bring myself to fold on a notebook though.

Fair enough, I tune my systems for games though so they would get hot folding.
