last week i found a clevo gtx1060 unlock tdp vbios from a chinese forum.

the author said the vbios must update by using a bios programmer kit

the gtx1060 vbios unlock TDP from 75w to 120-160w

i get a huge performance boost after unlock that bios

It's been known for a while already, but since it requires a "Clevo shaped" card, old machine like my p170em/msi 1060 doesn't stand a chance. Still waiting for a modified MSI vBIOS so I might give it a go.

Basically the unlocked vBIOS raises the power limit so it doesn't power throttle too much, and hence boosting higher clock for prolonged period.

Will this work with a Clevo P750DM-G? I just installed a 1060 yesterday, modded the drivers and got it running nicely, but it does have some power limitations that I think a proper vBIOS would resolve.

    Thank you

It would but you would need to program the vbios manually.

I'm not entirely sure which brand it is, but it looks like one of the Gecube cards. Doing the thermal padding was a pain, but I got it all laid out nicely and it's working really well. About 13% faster than my overclocked 980m, but this is with stock settings and I doubt the vBIOS is optimized in any way for my machine. Tha'ts why Im looking for a good vBIOS

Is the PCB black? MSI cards have a black PCB. If it's black then you can download MSI's VBIOS roms to match.

    https://us.msi.com/Laptop/support/GT62VR-Dominator-6th-Gen-GTX-1060.html#down-firmware

These will work for sure with MSI cards if you have an MSI card. If you don't then you can try your luck but if it fails then it's not my fault.

Visiting Chinese Modding forums is a big NO NO because Chinese forums are notorious for being dodgey in regards to the quality of the software and mods being pushed out. It's recommended that you should avoid those forums and just come straight here...especially if you don't understand Chinese.

He'll just say "don't use" to save you the hassle in wondering. Why? because they usually either screw up the vbios making it or the hardware unusable or it was stolen from coders like @Prema. So don't bother with Chinese forums....especially if you don't understand Chinese.

Most of us already know bumping up the TDP = performance boost. Many of us have done it from as early as the start of 2017 so your not the first person to make a "big discovery". Nothing new to see here.

Don't wait for a modded vbios. you can download a legit MSI 1060 vbios from here:

    https://us.msi.com/Laptop/support/GT62VR-Dominator-6th-Gen-GTX-1060.html#down-firmware

    and grab @Coolane's tool here:

    https://github.com/LaneLyng/MobilePascalTDPTweaker/releases

and do the TDP mod yourself.

If your card is a gsync card you'll need to flash the gsync vbios...that's how it is.

Don't say it's too hard or you don't know what to do.

A bit harsh, you guys were not the first either, bios mods for power limits have been going on for years.

It's the exact same GPU as the image I posted. Again, I'm pretty sure it's one of the Gecube cards. I got it on ebay and it works great for anyone interested in this. I've decided to not mess with the vBIOS at this time since it's already working well and it's more risk than it's worth. Thank you for the response.

meaning any tweaking you do will fail because of a bad vbios or poor quality components. pay the extra and get an MSI 1060.

Are these cards really that bad?

I'm happy with it's performance so far. The MSI cards I found were quite a bit more, otherwise I would have gone for it. I got this card for $500, no tax, free shipping and it's brand new. The MSI's I found were all either $700 or used for $550+. This setup is only meant to last for another year or so when I will upgrade to the new volta platform. I use it for mobile landscape 3D design and despite it only benchmarking 15% faster, the 1060 is noticeably outperforming the 980m I had before. Considering I have someone willing to buy my 980m for $400, that makes this a $100 upgrade and is well worth that price. I also reduced my CPU temps by delidding it, and upgraded to a 330w power brick, so that probably also helped increase performance a bit.

The important thing is that it's performing well, getting the job done and I'm happy.

yes because there have been cases where capacitors have blown making them inoperable. As the saying goes: you get what you pay for.

    you can use this vbios:

hello buddy I have the p375sm-a with 970m sli.
I'm wondering if I sell them and get 1 gtx1060 msi version,do you think it will be compatible?
do I have to flash any vbios to work?
prema has any vbios to unlock the volts?
and finally is it worth to buy the 1060 msi instead keeping my 970m's in sli?
thank you for your time guys :)

It's not.....difficult. You don't have to worry about space issues because the card will fit.

Ask @woodzstack for a GTX 1070. There is no special heatsink. A 980M heatsink will do just fine but you need to modify a 980DT heatsink for it to fit correctly.

I used the 980DT heatsink because it has 2 heatsink fins on them. Modding the 980DT heatsink is easy, you just need a hacksaw, marker, sandpaper, and patience.

VBIOS can be modded by yourself with a programmer.

If you don't have the time then don't bother upgrading or just buy a new model and sell the P870DM-G.

You can run into driver issues in the future and a new system is going to have better support too. So yes as above if time is an issue then a new system is likely a better option.

No, no g-sync because the motherboard does not detect the 1070 as a licensed GPU therefore g-sync will not work.

Don't even bother asking to get it modded in, NVIDIA won't be too happy about it.
