hello guys, i recently saw this guide about fixing thermal issues on a p150 http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...d-by-clevo-solutions-here.676272/#post8694123

i wanted to know if it's a good idea to put a copper thermal pad between the copper heatsink and the gpu. and then apply metal/mx4 thermal paste on both sides.

i'm worried of applying metal thermal paste by itself since the layer needs to be very thin and that wouldn't work very well since there is gaps.

Thermal pad is indeed a stupid idea.

    What is your spec??

I wouldn't do that. Thermal pads are not designed to be used there (unless you're talking about the IC ones, which are dubious) and will likely not work for long in that confguration.

do you guys think that liquid metal will help? what would be the best way to get better cooling performance on this laptop other than using high quality thermal paste?

i have an extra fan that i wanted to attach near the gpu to increase air flow, but there is no were i can plug it in. also: would attaching extra copper pipes to the heatsink help? with a thermal pad/paste in between them?

There is no header for a third fan. I would avoid modding the cooling system unless you really know what you're doing.

I wouldn't personally recommend the metal compound. Since any getting on the motherboard can cause it to short out.

Can you post your temperatures as well?

85-90 under full load with a cooling pad under the laptop

The more layers of separation, the worse off you are. The premise of the cooling system mod was that the metal of the heatsink was out of plane and not evenly applied to the GPU chip. Adding pad layers has no positive bearing on this aspect whatsoever as you'll just make it hotter with the increased thermal resistance of the pads.

The mod tutorial really thoroughly goes over various causes and mod methods that will drop your temps. Other than that an external fan is really the next option, or maybe undervolting your system if you are lucky and have a good chip it will run stable undervolted.

it's not possible to undervolt, it's locked by the bios,(and i was not able to find a modded bios) do you think metal thermal paste would work? considering that as you said "the metal of the heatsink was out of plane and not evenly applied to the GPU chip" ?

Throtlestop can undervolt with stock BIOS.

just to confirm i was talking about the GPU, i've already undervolted the cpu and it doesn't throttle anymore, is throttlestop able to undervolt the gpu? can't check right now as i don't have my laptop with me

Ah no, throttlestop is for CPU only.

I could probably fix your issue with an optimized vBios.

That reminds me... I installed Prema, which has manual control of a %100 fan toggle. Sounds like a small vacuum but it would definitely keep it cooler... and keep a spare fan on standby when it eats the dust :p

It is not a manual fan control. Your notebook should have it as well even without Premamod, just press FN +1 (not f1) and see if your fans soin up to 100%.
