I have been a huge fan of my 17" laptop, but the time has come to switch it up and get a new one. I have settled on one of these 2 i have the quote for the p177sm
    GAMING LAPTOP, Quick Ship Clevo P177SM Gaming Notebook, 17.3" Full HD LED LCD, NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 780M / GTX 770M / ATI® Radeon™ HD 8970M Graphics 1 $1633.00 $1633.00
CLEVO, P177SM Core i7 Notebook Barebone, Intel® HM87, 17.3" Full HD LED Matte, PCIe x16 MXM-III Discrete Graphics

    INTEL, Core™ i7-4700MQ Quad-Core 2.4 - 3.4GHz TB, HD Graphics 4600, 8MB L3 Cache, 22nm, 47W

INNOVATION COOLING, Diamond Thermal Compound, CPU & GPU

    ATI, Radeon™ HD 8970M 4GB GDDR5 Mobile Graphics Card for P177SM

    DDR3, 8GB (2 x 4GB) PC3-12800 DDR3 1600MHz SDRAM SODIMM

    HDD, 750GB, 7200-RPM, 16MB cache, 2.5-Inch, SATA 3 Gb/s

NONE, No Operating System (Choose OS or subject to Limited Support)

SERVICE, 3 Business Days Guaranteed Priority Assembly

WARRANTY, 30 Days No Dead Pixel Warranty

WARRANTY, Standard 1-Year Warranty for Clevo Notebooks

and that is for the quick ship in stock ones.

then there is the clevo 157sm off xoticpc.com that is the same cost, same cpu and gpu. 95% ntsc color gamut matte screen, extra copper added to the heatsink, a primary ssd. and double the ram. it seems like so to me, but would the 15.6" be more worth it than the 17" when the 15.6 has a bit better hardware. is the p157sm still a replaceable gpu? i need it to be able to fit an nvidia quadro gpu in the future that can be user replaced. i know the p177sm can do that. i was assuming since it was larger it would probably have better cooling but since the upgraded heatsink is only through xotic pc on the 15.6" model, would it effectively cool better than the p177sm?

i'm really torn between the two. i want the i7 processor, dual cooling fans and amd 8970m but don't want heat to be an issue ever. i have read that p150sm has had a heat issue and some fixed it by forcing down the gpu heatsink. i'm more of the person who would underclock to have the laptop last longer. my current one is 5 years old and just barely dying. i would like this one to do the same.
    Which one should i pick?

Do you intend to modify the bottom cover to make the added ram sinks improve the temperatures? If not then don't.

The 15 inch and 17 inch use the same motherboard so they are physically similar.

The 17 inch has stronger power circuitry and a copper cpu heatsink which makes a difference if you want to overclock.

I agree, skip the extra copper heat sinks. The 17 has a bigger included power supply/ac adapter, so more watts supplied.

I had the same choice and I am glad I got the bigger display. Of course my laptop never leaves my house though.

If the difference in portability don't matter the 17 inch is a better choice, it's down to your priorities.

You'll want to decide quick as Sager is now back ordered on both of these until mid March. You may be able to get one from a non Sager, Clevo reseller, or take about a month to really decide which you'll prefer.

If they are backordered, you may want to wait and see if the new GPUs are coming out.

yea might as well wait. The backorder might even be due to Sager themselves waiting for the maxwell cards....

Well you can see multiple manufacturers pulling lines temporarily at the moment.

Due to NDAs you likely won't get any specifics on upcoming hardware changes. Still, there is a possibility this is the reason for backordered units at the moment.
