As one of the first owners of the p370em 7970m cfx in the UK, i have experienced some of the issues first hand caused by drivers / issues etc.

But after 6 months, i am happy to report that my machine is running like a dream, totally error , BSOD free, and cooler than ever, with over clocks that i could of only dreamt of - it just took alot of learning and experimenting - i just wanted to pass on my experience to any one else in a similar situation that is having problems and just wants to turn the thing on and have an awesome gaming rig :)

Can i say firstly, if you want to carry out these steps, please do at your own risk- i am just sharing my experiences, i cant guarantee it will work for you - so do so AT YOUR OWN RISK, but all the following has made a HUGE difference to my gaming experience.

First off, recently i did the foil trick : Found in another thread here:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...0em-7970m-gpu-cooling-performance-foiled.html

This cheap, easy trick has massively reduced temps inside the chassis, and now even with massive overclocking of processor and cards, the highest gpu temp is 82c, and usually alot lower- before i could easily hit 102c.

I have also added a cooling stand- go for the best and biggest you can afford, i think if you are spending thousands on a laptop you should do this as a given, any extra cooling is always helpful, no matter how small a difference it may or may not make.

Next, i have always , since the first time i installed non clevo drivers, been plagued with BSOD atimpag.sys on startup or when loading certain applications - often random. The other day, i found a guide that i decided to try, and after 2 weeks with no problems, i think it has finally fixed all the problems, where everything else has failed - here is the guide :

AMD - How To Overclock The Official Way Using MSI Afterburner - Overclockers UK Forums

Its actually meant for people having trouble with overclocking - as i was - any overclocking was causing a BSOD - so i knew something was wrong, but this fixed everything. Well, i think Driver fusion did. You have to pay about $20 for a year licence, so its up to you if you want to do that or not, but after i decided it was worth a go, i am so glad i did - unlike driver sweeper, which just caused more problems, this actually got rid of the files its meant to , and allowed a proper clean install, and no more BSOD. I strongly suggest you follow this guide and let me know how it goes if you are having problems.

And finally the proof - after having some spare cash to upgrade my processor from a 3610qm to a 3840qm (once everything was fixed) i did some more benches - and managed nearly 12k on 3dmark11 - which is amazing. Even on the 3610m, i could get 11.5k !!!! Max temp 82c

AMD Radeon HD 7970M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3840QM,CLEVO P370EM score: P11977 3DMarks

Even AMD spent more time and effort sorting these problems out with the re sellers and educating people, then people would not be so worried about buying their (great) cards, and instead spending hundreds more on a card that isnt actually any better; you are just paying hundreds of pounds for the peace of mind of not having to mess around to make it work the way to should.

So come on AMD, sort it out - you make great cards, but spend a little time on customer service and the final part of getting it to work the way it should - its not even hard !!!

Thanks for the info! I need to go on and bite the bullet on getting an additional 7970m lol.

    +1 on the foil mod!

I've done that and posted pics of the before and after on the 9370 owner's thread. Same environment, no changes, did a reboot, 20 min burn procedure saw a drop from 84C to 75C immediately.

    Hi

I appreciate you taking the time to write up this little review, but what drivers are you using? Also I've been using driver fusion for months and as much as it's cleaned some files, it's never stopped my bsod
