Hi i received today my clevo p370sm barebone without the battery (seller said had problems shipping it)
supposedly the laptop is new.I installed cpu, ram, ssd myself. The problem is that it won't power up. It clearly shows the indicator light(orange) that gets power from adapter, so when i try to turn it on light becomes "green" blink once and then instantly goes back to "orange". i red from manual that on first start up the battery is locked and won't power on until you put ac adapter on.. is it possible that i need that battery to turn it on fist time? or any ideas what's wrong?

p.s it seems to respond when pressing the "fn" key immediately after i press the power button (changes light to blinking orange" ) other than that it seems like it's dead no fans spinning not trying to boot nothing

cpu: intel core i7 4800mq (never tested it so far)
    ram: 2x8gb ddr3 1333mhz
    ssd:120gb (new)
    gpu:GeForce GTX 780m

    welcome to nbr

dont forget the graphics card or cards :) as i dont think this has optimus so no intel graphics.

also advertised with 1600mhz ram only
    Dual channel  DDR3L
Four 204 pins SODIMM sockets, support DDR3L 1600MHz
(Real operation frequency depends on processor)
Expandable memory up to 32GB, depends on 2GB/4GB/8GB SO-DIMM module

also who was the supplier as never heard of a laptop being sent out without a battery even if it was a barebone (i could be wrong though).

    thank you
yeah forgot about that, gpu is GeForce GTX 780m (1) and it was included with the purchase
are you sure 1600mhz only cause somewhere that it supports 1333mhz (but even if that was the problem it would still power on i believe)
the seller is "www*hardcorecustom*de" ,well my guess is that he wouldn't pay enough for the shipping(i'll take care of him later... )
i noticed something now usb is working for about 3 seconds before it changes to orange light
another problem is that i have never tested the cpu before which i also bought from ebay

the above ram was from clevo website itself and my supplier only has 1600 showing on their website for this model.

ahh ebay, that says it all. almost impossible for us to tell what it could be if you bought bits from all over.
it should still work without battery though as long as the psu is working as well.

have you tried F8 on boot up to see if it will stay alive in safe mode.

Some carriers won't ship lithium ion batteries.

Is your ram 1.5V? If it is that could be causing the issue as haswell will only supply 1.35v.

It's very likely your ram is not quite capable of 1600mhz at 1.35v. You could try a lower speed (intel xtu to set).

Your ram is already being undervolted, this is what is very likely causing your issue and before you ask, no it can't be raised, intel hard locked it to 1.35v ram to force everyone to use it and help the power figures of the platform.

cpu-z shows that ram working 1.5v are you sure about that? also intel xtu shows 1333mhz so... i am not sure to be honest that the problem is my ram, but still i have to check and for now i can't affort buying new ram..

I can see no tabs in CPU-Z that show the current memory voltage so I am confused.

I see 4 sets of timings and 4 voltages the ram will request with those timings. Where is the current voltage reading?

You need to use programs like this carefully, this is a table, your ram can't be running them all at once so they must be different presets that have no bearing on the current settings.

    I do not understand
    How can this happen.
first you should inform yourself which RAM
    and then buy RAM

    You made it vice versa.

1.5V 1333MHz were installed in the Clevo M980NU 4 years ago

Ditch the ram you're using right now. Make sure whatever ram you buy is 1600MHz and rated for 1.35V (DDR3 L not just regular DDR3)

as i said on the second post of this thread it was most probably caused by using the wrong ram.
now you have flashed the bios with the wrong ram installed it could well have messed it up even more.
im no expert as ive never flashed a bios before but when you get the ram try it. if it doesnt work then contact clevo germany for a rma quoting the serial number and take it from there.

    OK, then...

Some posts were deleted because they contained private communication and foul language concealed with a filter bypass, both of which are forum rule violations. Some angry responses were deleted as well. And one otherwise constructive post, which correctly pointed out these violations, was deleted because it is no longer relevant.

There are some real and understandable issues here between the buyer and seller. Please work them out using PM or other means. To the extent you DO communicate about it in the thread, make sure such communication stays within forum rules. If you think you know the forum rules, but have not actually read them, or not read them recently, I ask that you please do so before making any more posts.

    Thank you.

The problem is your Bios Flash
There is something went wrong with your BIOS Flash.
    I have written to you,
do not make a bios flash if something goes wrong, the warranty goes lost.
    And you have a brick.

You have flashed the bios and now the broblem is there.

I am writing to you again,
Send the notebook directly to Clevo Germany.

    Excuse
but more I can NOT do for you.

The problem is you have to run every component in spec before you can diagnose any issue like this.

You are currently undervolting/overclocking the ram which can cause pretty much every error that a computer can generate.

Telling him to ship it to Clevo will likely get it sent back stating it's working fine (if they test it with 1.35v ram) or simply told to run 1.35v ram if he ships it back with the 1.5v ram in it.

i have changed the ram to ddr3l but i still have the same issue... I noticed when i try to update the ec2 chip it freezes. That's exactly where the problem lies, it is either is a development board and has no ec2 chip or there is something wrong there, any solutions to this? or anyone know how to check this?

You could check the serial number (usually near the ram slots)
