    Hi there,

I was asked if a laptop could be custom-made by a friend with "big" needs in term of resources (using DAW, lots of vst, lots of high quality recordings/wavs/samples etc..), after a quick googling we've found a clevo/sager resseller which was really challenging in term of price, we took the big leap and ordered after some reviews and questionning.

    Here's the config :
    base - W370SS (17.3", nvidia GTX860M)
    cpu : i7 4700MQ
    ram : 2*8go ddr3
    ssd + 500go hdd & dvd burner
"default" wifi card option and bt
    no windows / no linux

Nothing really exotic nor unrealistic, but still...

After correctly ordering / sending money by sepa / waiting for delivery, we could finally unbox and start installing windows : here comes the trouble !

First of all, we've tried windows 8.1 with a legal/valid licence and had no troubles with installing/upgrading windows.. but here comes the intel Hd graphics update !
What happens is : windows finds an update (no driver for intel IGP), installs it, and automatically GLITCHES/black dots/wierd graphics appears on screen (2d / windows desktop)
Uninstalling the driver makes everything goes back to normal, but it won't allow installing the GTX860M and therefore : 3d / openCL / GPGPU, etc.. can't be used.

I then noticed laptop was shipped with a driver CD, which after clean uninstall / reformating doesn't change a thing, anytime HD graphics are installed, it goes glitchy for no reason.

Quick googling doesn't show much, lots of googling either... :(

It's been 2 days now, we've tried so far :

    - windows 8.1 = clean install 3x, proper uninstalling drivers / updates / intel's latest driver / windows updates to latest
    - windows 8 = clean install 1x, proper uninstalling drivers / updates / intel's latest driver / windows updates to latest
    - windows 7 = clean install 2x, proper uninstalling drivers / updates / intel's latest driver / windows updates to latest

(including messing with driver files, using "device manager" to remove/uninstall drivers, drivesweeper and drivercleaner)

After all that, I've been wondering if it wasn't an hardware troubleshoot.
    - plugin VGA/hdmi to another screen no matter if you duplicate/extend display... glitches, glitches everywhere....
    - removing ram sticks, one by one, reverting them (slot 1 to 2 and vice versa)
    - checking avg temp (room, cpu, gpu, palping under with my hand)

Last thing would be to call reseller and see with their aftersales service... or anyone having a luminous idea ? :)

    Thanks for reading

    welcome to nbr

sorry to hear your having problems :(

which country are you based and who was your supplier?

i dont know this model so checked the spec on clevo. i see it has optimus with HD4600

here are a list of the drivers from sager which has an intel driver from last month Software Upgrade

all the drivers have to be installed in a certain order as laid out with your enclosed driver cd otherwise they can conflict.

but it could well be a hardware fault if youve connected a external screen and you have the same glitches on there.

first thing you need to do is contact your suppliers support line.

Hardware fault, sounds to me. Return it and get a refund or a different unit. Don't wait for them to repair it, that will take forever if you're lucky.

Yes, it is likely a faulty iGPU. A quick replacement of the processor should fix that.
