    Hi there...

Maybe a noob question, maybe not. I now use an external monitor with my m570u. In the power options I set Windows to do nothing when the lid closes.

But shouldn't it at least put the display off? Mine looks like it's always on, even though the lid is closed  ... Is a 3rd party messing around?

    Thanks!

Hmm... if the LCD is closed and still remains on... then....

    - there is a small mechanism that might be stuck that switches the LCD off.

Its located in the LCD hinge, I would recommend to tap that spot to see if you can jostle it back.

Or contact your vendor for advice... or maybe RMA it if need be.

Mmmm, it's in the hinge? That's why I could see anything :). My previous laptop had a visible switch outside the hinges...

Oh well, will check that with Eurocom...

Another way to get the LCD to turn off...

    - is to use the Display Toggle (Fn+F7) to switch the display at low-level (rather than using the software). That should usually shut off the notebook LCD to make the external display the primary.

    OR....

    - use the Display Properties, go to Settings tab. Enable both displays (by right-clicking on 1 and 2, and check Attached). Then right-click on #2 display [the external] and make it Primary (which would then make it #1). Then right-click & uncheck Attached the LCD display. That should shut off the notebook's LCD as well.

    - another similar way to do this is through the Nvidia software (Display Properties > Settings tab > Advanced button > Geforce tab).... then do the same kind of settings under the nView Display Settings
