ok i have an np5792 (love it) a barracuda headset and im playing counter strike source and 1.6

i have my plugs (center/sub,rear,left/right) in the 1st 3 audio slots from left to right

when i play 1.6 the sounds arent very distinct, i mean i can hear where they sorta are but its not really clear.
with source i cant tell really.. its like 1.6 but i get strange echos. if someone is running right next to me, it doesnt sound like they're there.. more like they're behind me somewhere.

i was wondering if there is some better setups i can use in the realtek audio options to make the sounds more distinct so i can know exactly where people are.. and not have to guess

Double commas isn't the best grammar.
May i suggest the underutilized but awsome; power of the semicolon.
I, for one; support good grammar.

LOL, i'll bear that in mind

vista 64 bit, maybe your problem, you could try running the game in xp compatibility mode.

right click the game short cut on your desktop
    click properties
    click compatibility tab
    and choose xp
