Hi all,
I am almost ready to buy the np9773s, but I am wondering about temps. I am going to use the laptop almost exclusively for gaming, Dying Light, Shadows of Mordor, and newer games releasing this year, Fallout 4 and others.
I've been going over some builds on XOTICPC and have two concerns.
1. Is there a difference in temps between the i7-4790 and the i74790K?
2. Is there a noticeable real-life speed difference between the Samsung M.2 SATA SSD and the PCIe version? In HTWingnut's review he said the PCIe version gets hot and may cause throttling; if going with the M.2 SSD will help keep temps lower, then I will most likely choose that.
I'm really looking forward to getting this laptop. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!

As the Desktop editions, the K is unlocked, which means you can tweak the core clock for high clocks, for example if your CPU stock is 3.6Ghz and the turbo clock is 4.0Ghz on the i7-4790, the i7-4790K can go beyond the 4.0Ghz depends on your cooling system, you can also decrease the voltage to get better clock for less heat, which will make the overclocked values last longer without crash or anything.

To be honest i am not familiar with the SSD structure at all, but i am learning because i am getting into it for my new laptop, if i found something useful i will help you.
**IMO do NOT get high CPU what so ever, your battery drain will be extreme and your laptop will not last as much if you got high CPU, and if speaking of the unlocked " K " version i do NOT think it will last the 2 hour with low usage, unless you REALLY and i mean REALLY want good CPU i wont even recommend the desktop CPU's, unless you want the laptop to be PC replacement then do NOT even come near the desktop CPU's my friend.
If you want strict gaming like you said, then do like me and get the Sager NP9377-S, the CPU's on this laptop is replaceable and got power enough to make you play whatever you want to, i would say the i7-4810MQ is enough, and i think it is, but because i am working on editing and stuff, so i dont mind to pay a little extra for the i7-4910MQ and get a better performance.
So tell me what is your build anyway, because i am already building almost the same laptop for the same purpose -
Hi xMASEx,
Thanks for your response. I've been thinking about getting the NP9377-S also. The PN9773-S has the IPS screen that I have heard is very nice.
For the NP9773-S, I am considering:
i7-4790
GTX980M
16GB DDR3 1866MHz RAM
250 GB SSD as boot drive
1 TB storage drive
The rest of the options are default.
I am looking for a desktop replacement and I am not worried about battery use at all. I'll have the laptop plugged in all the time.
Have you used the i7-4810? I think I'll check some reviews and benchmarks.
Thanks! -
Well, for a PC replacement you can almost chose anything, but i sill prefer putting the money on the GPU's rather than the CPU, i know many people saying that the I7-4810 is enough, and i think it is enough, i am still thinking about getting the laptop, so i didnt make up my mind yet.
You can check this guy, but he have the 980m SLI on it, which is expensive compared to single 980m, but still he have the 4810 CPU which i say is better than the desktop one since i dont think you need it, better GPU power is better IMO.
Youtube Channel benchmarks and stuff
So i've picked 970m SLI, instead of one 980m, which is better in SLI based games and future games, but i chose the IS-4710MQ to lower the price a bit, here is the build i say is better than the one you chose, GPU all the way eh
This build cost $2,324.00, a bit more money than the one you chose granted but the 970m SLI is better than Single 980m, also you can ALWAYS get the new 980m SLI for this laptop, while i think the other one is restricted to only single GPU, correct me if am wrong, so check these things out and look at the benchmark and tell me what you think

Hi xMASEx,
Thanks for the link. The build you have there looks great.
Now, you have given me even more to think about! I am going to look at the 970SLI and i7-4710 or the 4810.
Lots of research to do today. -
Good luck my friend, and even if you got only one 980m on the NP9377-S, you are able to add another 980m when you got extra money, so i think it is better to drop the desktop CPU and go for the normal CPU, also you can switch the CPU on it like the desktop CPU, but you have extra GPU slot, so you can upgrade your gaming which is your main goal anyway

Good luck to you too. I'm looking more and more at the 970M SLI with the i7-4810. Seems like that is a pretty good build.

It is decent build, but if you want the real stuff look at my thread, someone from the forums offers a GREAT deal, check it out, also there are student discount, which is 10% off the price, with few tips on my thread, you can even get the 980m SLI :O, check it out and thank " t456 " for met456 likes this. -
Thanks for the tip!

970M x 2 is great. In rare cases you may need to run on a single card if a game doesn't want to play nicely with SLI, but otherwise that's a mean machine.

There are some minor feature differences between the 4790 and 4790k too:

They wont impact most people but they are there.
