I finaly found someone who can make some custom external battery pack for my w860cu computer (been looking only for 8 months now...).

I will get it within this month and check if it works well.

the price is around 300 usd (in taiwan)

if it works ok, and if some people really need it as bad as i do I will consider to ask more and resell then.

i know the last clevo laptop sucks even more power (160 w). i could ask the company a quotation for such power too, but as i have no way to test if it does really work well i don't know if it worth the trouble.

you can let me know in this thread if you would be interested.

the size is a biz smaller than the clevo laptop and half height weight around 1 - 1.5 kg.

theoricaly duration should be around 2 hours gaming, 4-5 hours power energy usage.

i will test it once i get it. not even sure it will work yet

Are there no battery packs you can put in the extra HDD slots?

I'm looking for a 17" laptop pretty soon and battery life is a really big deal for me. Apple (who I hate) manages to throw lots of batteries into each laptop, I'd really like something similar in a Clevo. Possible?

I assume you could charge your internal battery when running from this external battery pack. That would be very useful. It should probably work with other notebooks too. But I don't have $300 to spend on one of these sadly.

I don't think anything like that is worth it because the cells are always so much cheaper than the product.

There are these bricks of like 25 cells at my local surplus store for 5$ but I don't know what kind they are, I should check.

My old Dell Inspiron 5000e could take a second internal battery just by replacing the DVD-drive in its own bay.
Only a few seconds install, no screwdriver, but most likely a blocking patent.

My old toshiba tecra M9 also had a battery for the optical bay.

And I have read a review of the first dellalienware m17x that had the battery in optical bay option (iirc).

Do you know if Clevo has any accessories for batteries in the optical or HDD bay?

It's really the only thing stopping me from getting a Mythlogic or Malibal right now. Or maybe Xotic. Well, that, and waiting to see what Bulldozer has to offer.

If anyone knows where I could get extra batteries to put in the W170HN or similar 17" chassis please let me know. Thanks.

Maybe you could ask the guy how difficult would be to add a SATA interface / adapter for the battery.

An option is to buy the same batteries people use for high-end remote controlled cars and run them in series. How many batteries you run in series depends on the voltage your laptop requires. Might have to get a special charger, and maybe construct a nice case for the batteries. More batteries you run together the longer your laptop will run. This is the route I'd go rather than spending $300 on one battery. For $300, that's already the price of a decent netbook.
