Hey guys, been a while since i rele been into this place hardcore like i used to... College work :-/
anyway, got meself a beast (check sig) and the screen, just recently, started acting a lil wierd and its scarin me to be honest. Cuz this laptop is my lifeline for everything i do!
Anyway, the problem is that every now and then, lines of random colors will go across the screen, like just flicker rele fast, as i scroll down or up on a certain website. So far ive only seen it happen wen using internet explorer, and i play TF2/ bioshock all maxed out! so its quite wierd. Also, wen i go to a website with a like an all grey background, i can see a noticeable like, flicker of the entire area of the color, almost like strobing from dark gray/light gray. Im more worried about these random colored lines. You think it could be a video card thing? Im still using the 163.44 bioshock drivers, prolly gonna upgrade now that i think about it. But could it also be a physical LCD problem? any ideas?

sounds like there is loose LCD cable, or the LCD inverter needs to be replaced.
-
is this an ez fix? cuz im one to open up this baby and fix it myself if it is... i would assume i would have to take out the four screws on the top and bottom of the LCD (the ones covered by the little rubber circles)? and just reseat?
-
Is it me or this is happening more then it should on the d901c? My count is already about 10 cases here on the forum. Mine had this problem with less then two weeks of use. Some after a longer period of use. They should provide a fix once and for all.
With such a recurring problem ... there should be a FAQ and Tutorial about how to fix it I think.

during transit, a notebook has a chance to loosen something, I have that happened to me, but it was easy to resecure the cable.
I went under the keyboard first to track the LCD cable leading to the LCD panel itself.... fortunately for me, it was loose under the top section of the keyboard, although I had to open up the lcd casing for my buddy's D900T. -
i guess im both relieved to hear im not the only one with this issue, yet troubled im not the only one with this issue lol. It has rele happened since i posted that... except once while watching a movie. Which btw.. is only wen it happens, wen something moving is on the screen. If it starts to happen more often i guess i'll open her up. But till then. yea i guess this should get like.. an asterik*... as a rare, yet common new notebook issue

get PCMicroworks to repair it while its still under warranty
-
they already repaired my keyboard which they just sent me and i did it myself. I hate to call them again within like 2 weeks.
Plus, i dont have the kind of time to do that, send it to them to fix it and wait a week. This computer is my lifeline at college. Im writing papers and studying off it every minute of the day. Luckily, the semester ends mid-december in which ill be back home on my desktop... altho, ill prolly still use this, now more powerful, beast... shhh dont tell him tho, hes had a good five year run.
once im home, i can fidgit all i want. it'll still be under warranty by then. Besides, the screen hasnt done it since. It happened for one day only, not before, not after... (crossing fingers). Unless it happens again, Thanks for letting me know wat the prob. can be. Thread may now rest in peace. -
well theres thanksgiving coming up, you can get it repaired during that time.

Yes it has a chance but never saw so many posts dedicated to a laptop about something like this in a forum besides this one.
Gophn, I hope you not implying that this issue is a normal one on lappies (Loose cable ribbon?) becouse I don't belive it is. In my book it means that the way the LCD cable ribbon is attached is not reliable for transit. It should be a non issue on a lappy this expensive. Heck, is a non issue in lappies far less expensive then this one.
This is my fifth laptop, all others never had a problem due to transportation (mean normal transportation).

PS: As for sending the lappy to the supplier to get fixed it is not a solution really as it creates another problem for the customer. The solution is not to have the problem in the first place due to transportation. So if someone care to post a tutorial that would be nice as I suspect more will have this same problem. By the way ... it will get worst once u get it -
this is not common, its pretty rare.
but my notebook had this issue when I was carrying it in my backpack and bumped into cars...while running through a tight college parking lot. -
i was gonna let it die.. but since it kept going
...
anywayz... STILL hasnt happened... its quite weird... so unless it happens again... it must not be THAT loose.
anway.. as for a tutorial, im gonna take a shot in the dark on how to do it based on an older laptop this has happened to. btw.. i would be wrong, but on a customizable system, its ez enuf
just unscrew the 8 screws (4top and 4 bottom) (they're covered by lil round rubber circles) the front face plate should pop off revealing the LCD metal bracket housing. The connector cable shud be behind the LCD screen, so you'll have to take off the brackets too. THe LCD inverter should be on the bottom of the screen. I also heard that if you removed the keyboard you can check the computers side of the connection to the screen.
keep in mind.. that was just speculatory based on other laptop LCDs ive fixed. Its rele just trial and error. Unscrew watever u see till it pops openjust make sure u remember how to put it back together. or DONT try it at all lol

UPDATE:
hey every1... reviving this old thread just to say wat has been happening.. since this is an apparently common problem.
- Unscrewed the front of LCD... removed AND reseated everything from the inverter to the LCD screen. Meaning i had to also unhouse the LCD from its brackets and reconnect that too. I did this last nite.. and since havent rele had any lines.... knock on wood. Also, as an added extra, i removed the bottom panel and gave a good nudge on the video card toward the slot just to make sure thats tight in there too. So basically i covered all the physical aspects of it. If nothing happens from here on out, i may actually whip out mah digicam and post a guide... with pictures of everything open and unscrewed :-o! thats ONLY if this worked....
i may have some reason to believe it MIGHT be video card related.... and the fact i couldnt reseat the connector part to the mobo... much harder to get in there. so... hopefully there will be no problems... ill be updating this in the week to see if it stilll happens.. wish me luck!.. especially if u want me to make a guide. I mean, i kno I love wen ppl post guides with pictures... like a storybook for nerds -
nice.... pics are always good to have.
i guess you understand more when you open up your system.
