Hi everyone
I have pre-ordered a d900c from RJTech and I was hoping that some of you could offer advice regarding the optical drive. In my quote they list a Samsung
SN-S802D 8x DVD +/- RV Multi Slim Drive as the drive type being offered. Since I am building this system like whitebox, and I have no idea what is a good drive for this laptop, I was wondering if other suggestions could be offered that I could forward to rjtech. I have used samsung cd rw drives in my desktop builds and have not liked their reliability and noise level.
As always your advice is much appreciated.

I am not sure which IC format is used on the D900C optical drive [until I can get my hands on one for testing], if its standard, like the previous models, then I would recommend:
- Pioneer DVR-K16 (it was the most common DVD-RW found in these kinds of notebooks)
That particular Samsung burner is very new, no real reviews or tests on it. So it can actually be a good drive, we wont know yet until more people start using it.
I have had mine [on the D900K that I built last March] for a little over a year now, its been solid. -
Thanks Gophn,
I will check and see if the pioneer drive is compatible. -
Actually it may have to be the DVR-K17, as Pioneer seems to have updated their product offering. Along those lines, Gophn, do you know who makes the Blu-ray drive that will fit in the D900C? I've seen a couple vendors offering it as a configuration option (Hypersonic and one other I'm currently forgetting about...)

If you want any special orders [such as another optical drive], just contact the vendor to ask if they can get it for you. Most vendors should be able to make special orders if you contact them.
