my monitor is starting to bite the dust, and I would like a new one, preferably wuxga. I don't know anything about compatibility, so I would appreciate it if you guys would point me in the right direction.

on a side note: does anyone know if its worth upgrading my geforce 7800?

    Thanks in advance,
    Jon

hi jon and welcome to nbr
ive never even heard of that model but a google search brings up
    THIS from eurocom.
depending what part of the world you are in it might be worth giving them a ring or searching more on google for a closer reseller who can advise better.

There are WUXGA monitors for your laptop on eBay in the 40-60$ price range.
I wouldn't invest in upgrading the video card of an older laptop unless you find something under the 70-100$ range.

if you could shoot me a link for these Ebay monitors, I would be happy. I've been searching Ebay avidly for a few months to no avail, but I could just be using the wrong key words.

thanks for the quick responses guys, this is a nice forum :D

Thanks for the info also. My sager NP9890's screen is also dying (has about 12 vertical lines now) and I was also looking to replace the screen with a new one. I also considered upgrading my video card but I have since decided to use this one until it croaks and then buy a new system. The keyboard on mine is also dead, and I am hoping it will last until I can afford a new laptop.....but its always good to have the links to a new screen if I decide to change my mind.

I might have been wrong when I said they were WUXGA LCDs, the following ones are actually WSXGA+:
    Alienware m7700 Sager 9860 D9T LCD 17" LP171W02 (A4) - eBay (item 220743020245 end time Feb-27-11 16:29:36 PST)
    Alienware m7700 Sager 9860 D9T LCD 17" LP171W02 (A4) - eBay (item 220739419563 end time Feb-20-11 16:25:00 PST)

Here is a new WUXGA LCD but it is more expensive:
ALIENWARE AURORA M7700 M9700 MATTE LCD SCREEN 17 WUXGA - eBay (item 200552203391 end time Mar-06-11 21:39:40 PST)

You may end up with a cheaper WUXGA monitor if you search for a used D901C one that you know it is compatible with D900T.

vertical lines normaly means the graphics card is on its last legs so before you buy a screen i would post a picture so we can advise if its the screen or gpu.

Well I hooked up another monitor to the back of the laptop and it is fine, no lines, so I am led to believe that it is not the card but the lcd itself. I am planning on buying a new laptop eventually, I just need this one to hold out before I end up doing that.
