oo... yeah, forgot you cant start up your lappy.
DL it on your desktop.
extract the files in a bootable floppy, CD or even USB pen-drive.
and startup your lappy, go into BIOS set the boot sequence to whatever you chose to put the files in.
Please tell me you have had some experience flashing bios's and firmware... this is always something that one would have to "hold their breaths" for.
-
-
I have not but you know what.... I am gonna start now... cant hurt it anymore than what it is already
HA! Now I am to the point to where I am experimenting
-
the easiest way to flash your bios is:
1) extract files into a floppy
- Autoexec.bat
- D9R12.wph
- phlash16.exe
2) connect a USB Floppy Drive to your lappy (w/ the floppy that you made)
3) turn on lappy and go in BIOS
4) set the DVD drive to boot first (put a WinXP CD into the drive)
5) Boot up the WinXP install CD and go into Recovery Console
6) inside the console, (get into the floppy drive) type: A:
7) then type autoexec
The follow the instructions on the screen to flash, should take less than a minute... hold your breath, dont turn anything off.
Tell me how it goes. -
oh lawd here i go .. going to recovery console.... lets hope i can read this being I had foreign characters before.... am staying here and typing as I go so if I make a mistake you can back me up.... (humming jepordy song) entering RConsole pluging in floppy with disc in....switching to a:...oo command not recognized??? help...restarting with floppy connected disc out... okay one more time going into RConsole.... a:... yes! typing autoexec.. message "The command is not recognized. Type HELP for a list of supported commands.. Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
-
or you did not extract the 3 files onto the floppy
If you did extract the files into the floppy, then check (on your desktop) that its on the main A:\ and not in any folder. -
rechecking floppy data.... relocating it back to floppy...
everything is there... going back to lappy.... hmmm at A: prompt tyed in autoexec but still not recognized... not in any folder... so poopie... and the usb wouldnt be called anyother letter i dont reckon. The light comes on.. let me do dir and see what happens
it is sayin something jsut cant tell what because of characters but I do know that it is not the files like a short sentence.. rebooting.. -
Try A:, then Autoexec
-or-
B:, then Autoexec
its gotta be one of those, by typing DIR, you can see if the files are there or not. -
as soon as i went the a: (dir) it whoes the three files ... when doing autoexec still says command not recognized... will tinker and get back with ya if i get any further
-
tried A:, autoexec nothing
B:, autoexe nothing
a:autoexec
b:autoexec
a:\autoexe LOL still nothing
but they are there -
thats just weird, you wouldnt happen to have an old Win98 bootup floppy would you?
All you need is to get into a DOS enviroment, an then pop in the BIOS flashing floppy to start the flashing.
Options to get into DOS enviroment:
- Recovery Console
- Win98/ME bootup floppy
- WinPE (Pre-installation Environment) CD
Go here to make a bootable floppy to get into DOS:
http://www.bootdisk.com/
Bootup you lappy by Floppy now, then try again. -
which do you recommend?? version that is?
-
just grab this one:
http://files.frashii.com/~bootdisk/alabama/boot98se.exe -
Cant boot from floppy says to remove disk or other media... i will just shoot this thing now and be done with it
-
did you run boot98se.exe in your desktop??
it will tell you to insert a blank Floppy drive (dont use your BIOS floppy), then the program will format and put the bootable files into floppy.
Then that floppy is ready for bootup.
..... now you see why I asked if you had experience in flashing BIOS's and firmware... its really simple if you had experience. Even having experience in install old skool Win95/98 is good enough. -
floppy on desktop doesnt read for some reason been that way for a while now light comes on but says no disk anything i have ever tried to use it so i use external... and when i clikc 98 it says insert disk it automatically goes to desktop floppy drive... gonna blow it out and see if it works
-
flpy drive on desktop screwed going to sons room to copy be back later
-
yea that happens, old floppy drives can seize up and not function correct after a while of no1 using it.
-
All i get on any computer I use is disk error on track 0 sector 0 and it continues to go up if i hit ignore
crazy and get this sent it to email and it said it had a virus LOL not to open sooo poopie dookie
anyway to tell it to go to usb floppy? -
theres an idea... use your USB floppy....
plug it into any Windows 2000/XP machine, the OS should see it and give it a another drive letter (ex. B:\ )
Then try again. -
yeah proble is when I click the 98 boot thingy it tells me to insert floppy (it automatically tries to read from the a driver on my desktop gonna tinker a bit will let ya know if anything happens .. i still dont understand why everytime i try and boot from floppy on lappy it doesnt recognize it.. says remove data or other media
-
its says that its not recognized because the "media" that you have inserted does not have bootable info (files).
Having files in a floppy is one thing, having files in a bootable floppy is totally different, -
K sent to it b..... i guess it is extracting .. i right clicked and said send.. if the lappy doesnt boot from this, I am through with it. for now..
Umm it just sayd 98se and a box didnt extract it good gawd!
-
sending it to B: Drive is not the same
The XP Sending feature is a shortcut for COPYING a file to a certain location.
Go into the Computer Management (right-click on My Computer and choose Manage)
Go to Disk Management
You can actually change the letters of the drives there.
So change the USB Floppy Drive letter to A: and the other one to anything else.
Then the bootdisk prog should work. -
you are the bomb lemme go do that
will let ya know -
just c: dvd: and cd: says nothihng about usb floppy or a:
-
its under removable storage i think, no disk management
-
Nope tried it i am done pooey with it thanks though you have been awesome!
-
I got it, remove the floppy out of your desktop, either by:
- go into BIOS and disable it (the easy way)
- physically disconnect the cable from the motherboard (hard way) -
ok look you said all i needed was to get into msdos??? right??
so i said create msdos startup
put that in my floppy and it said starting
i have an a: prompt?? now can i put in the bios and do the exec command?? -
OMG IT WOKED
i guess it is flashing???
it is beeping and counting so far up to 50???? blue screen?? -
it could be A: or B:
use DIR to make sure -
hopefully you got it this time
-
Flash Memory has been successcul press any key to restart the systems if the system does not restart turn the power off, then (foreign characters) waiting on you before i do anything!!!!
-
U R the bomb!! even though i just did it through ms dos start up disk hehe hey! two minds are better than one right?
-
restart it man. See if the BIOS looks better
if the weird characters are still there, then I am pretty sure that its your harddrive. -
okay i still have foreing characters but do i need to now try and install window... i forgot to take the disk out so i am gonna sit here with it tellin me to remove it before i do anything... and i beg the differ but i am female thank ya very much
-
oh one more thing when i flash the bios it puts the new bios in there??? see told ya i was female blonde at that haha!
-
the foreign letters that show up where the HDD name should be means that the controller on the HDD is damaged/corrupted.
SO I highly recommend to get another SATA 2.5" HDD to test to see if the characters show up. It probably wont, from my experience. -
-
pci resource conflict on motherboard boo hoo that is my video card if I am not mistaken
right??
-
where do i get an hdd thingy and how much they run?
-
-
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...Subcategory=380&description=&Ntk=&srchInDesc= -
after doing all that I tried to install windows xp and it still says unknown device where the hard drive should be.... so yeah ... thank you so much it has been a blast....
-
