I have a D901C (Prostar 9191) with a v5.0A motherboard and 7950gtx in sli. This machine has been randomly shutting down sometimes during post, after post and after windows is booted.
It occurs whether the ac adapter is plugged in or not.
I have replaced the battery recently, and I believe it is good.
Upon removal of the back plate over the fans, I am observing that on startup, only one fan is running over one of the graphics cards, with the other 3 fans not running at all (not long before it shuts down).
Is this a bad motherboard? Or is something off in the bios or what?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

The_Observer 9262 is the best:)
Looks like it could be the high temperature.

When was the last time you cleaned out the machine?
-
The machine is pretty clean. I blow the dust out every couple of weeks. I agree it is probably temperature related, but that is probably due to only 1 of the 4 fans running on startup.
edit: I was able to get the machine past the post by hitting fn+1 as soon as I hit the power button to make all of the fans run full out. It worked. I am guessing the is some kind of unexposed setting in the bios related to the fan control. I am going to try resetting the bios to original state to see if that works, as this thing is pretty noisy with all the fans going full blast. -
Have you taken out the bottom and actually blown air through the copper sinks to remove all the dust? With mine I have to do this about every 3 months.

Gaming = Max fans. There's no real way around it, even with a laptop cooler...
Wu Jen is right. You need to disassemble the entire cooling system part by part and clean each part. I myself use a Q-Tip to clean off each fan blade for every fan. It takes a while, but it's worth it. -
I wonder if it needs a reapplication of decent thermal paste.

Thanks for the posts. I do disassemble the machine and completely clear the heatsinks and fan area. I don't use qtips and get it quite that clean. Maybe I will take it an extra step.
Edit: Hmmm, maybe I should try reapplying the thermal paste. -
the thermal compound might have dried up and/or cracked... so re-applying every year or two might be recommended.
