    In the np8660 i just purchased, came 2gb of 1066 ram. Ive been looking to upgrade to 4gb of 1333, but i cant seem to find anywhere if this notebook can handle that speed of ram.

    Just wundering if anybody else knew??

    Also, performance increase would being absolutely 0. Not worth the money.

    Im not to woried about the money. Where did you read that it wil down clock?? Before i bought this machine, i noticed i think it was eurocom that offered 1066, and 1333 speed ram.

    Also this is my hobby. a 2 point increase in 3d06, or a .2 frame increase in a game is worth it to me.

    Crazy yeah, but theres worst addiction, lol :D

    Eurocom wants to make money off ignorance with the 1333 ram. They did DDR2-800 on Santa Rosa as well

    Thanks Tarentum, thats exactly what i needed to see. but...........

    On the newegg, the jump from 1066, to 1333, is $5. With some possbile bois crack coming later down the road, or hell me just playing with a editor wouldnt it be possible to overclock the "motherboard" up to the 1333 speed??

    ^ Yes, it will give you ample room to OC the FSB, and not worry about the RAM going unstable.
    You don't really need a BIOS crack, but just need to the know the PLL no., look for a software that supports it, and OC the FSB.

    Max FSB Frequency: 1066MHz (Stock)
    FSB > RAM
    FSB = RAM
    FSB < RAM (Not Possible)

    Well, you'll have to find out the PLL no. on that clock generator chip by researching the net, or by disassembling the notebook.
    Get the PLL no., look for a software that supports it.
    If you can't find a software, try to get the PLL's datasheet and mail it to one of the software producers (SetFSB; CPUCool).

    For a custom BIOS, you'll have to check if the BIOS chip is socketed or not, and spend some money getting a custom BIOS made for your notebook.

    Not to sound dumb but how is it limited?? Someone told me once my 780i was the same way, but i was able to overclock it way past its limits.

    oh yea of course you can OC it via softwares like setFSB, sorry I was thinking something else.
    edit: oh i just got my memory back. yes you can raise the FSB vis software, but not all the way to 1333 w/o crashing, that's why i said it's physical.

    The North Bridge is not physically limited, but it cannot be OCed the way its done on desktops. You'll need software for it, and finding the right one is a pain in the anus.

    Honestly, stick with the Stock frequencies, because you can't apply water-cooling in notebooks to keep them cool.

    I think i may just stick with the stock freq.

    But just thinking out of the box... What if you could water cool??

    When you take the cdrom out of this laptop, it leave alot of space for the imagination.

    Yes, I know. :D

    But Laptop --> Portability

    You can try OCing, only if your are suffering serious CPU bottlenecks, otherwise it won't help.

    You won't be able to undervolt, since high frequency requires high voltages to run stable, and you can't break-through the pre-coded VIDs without a pin-mod or a BIOS customization.

    And I guess, you will have a hard-time finding the PLL no.

    Also remember, OCing the FSB increases the frequency of the CPU, GPU and RAM. So, there is a 1*3 chance that you will go unstable during the OC, and see your notebook crash.... :)
    EDIT: For Nirvana, Give OCing a shot !! :p

    I think PC Microworks was also selling their EDGE with DDR3 1333 and I think someone said that vendor reporting a 1-5% increase in performance?

    Difference in nothing !! The RAM will just downclock to DDR3-1066.

    As stated in this very thread, it will just downclock to 1066. Don't throw away your money.

    lol, dude, what a waste of cold hard cash.

    I was trying to get 2gb's of ddr2 in the m860tu, and here you are insulting me with this overpriced 'ddr3 1333' ram :p
