does anyone else's 5791 have a slight bend or..

dent sorta in the brushed aluminum on the lid near the hinges? i have one on the right side and i dont see any way to get rid of it. it appears the plastic sags a bit and that seems to be the cause of it?? any ideas?? the aluminum on top appears to be VERY soft and can bow very easy if pressed on at all.. just curious. it really bugs the crap out of me.. i cant remember if the first one i had was the same way or not.. ? i know im picky but thats the way i am..

 

Nothing wrong with being picky. I am a firm believer of getting what I paid for myself.

 

I don't think the one I have has that problem...why don't you take a couple of good photos so I will know what are you talking about?

 

its very hard to photograph you cant see it looking straight on but when you walk past it and see it from the side ... i was like OMG`WHAT IS THAT!!!!! whenever the light is on it looks like a big ripple in the aluminum... very annoying. makes it look like crap..if i slightly lift up the screen there it looks fine as soon as i let go blahhh...that hinge seems to have a lot of play on the inner side where the single wire goes up inside there..

 

so no one has this on theirs??? this is annoying me to no end. wonder if i should call sager not sure if i can get a new top for it.. like just the lid top i wonder how much it will cost. if i have to ill buy one just so it doesnt look like this crap one does.. any ideas?? i tried unsnapping it and sliding my finger in there and i can flatten it out so it looks fine but then once evrything gets snapped back together ig bows inwards again. i assume maybe the plastic is not right..

cant im outside of my time or at this point i would i hate to say that.. id like to get a new cover if i can the reason i am asking. at least then it will not drive me nuts looking at that spot.. the main thing wrong imo is the system turning off on me while in battery mode. when doing intensive tasks like gaming or vectorizing in flexi etc it will just turn off 4 times now. on ac power never does it. not so happy with this system any more...

 

i only have my phone camera here so i cant get a nice high res shot but this is where it is right where the brushed aluminum meets the plastic on the top towards the back. looks like maybe when the metal was stamped it got bent and they tried to flatten it out and installed it anyway...ill try to get a better pic tomm

 

well if there is a problem with the the unit while on battery, sounds like a good reason to send it back to me.

 

as i already said.. i am outside of the 30 days. i can not send it back now.. where did i not make that clear?? ill have to try to get a new cover i guess. which sucks..

 

what it looks like is as if someone pinched that corner to much or leaned there palm on that area while maybe being made or something like that.. its not a sharp ding like you would see on a car its like it starts really wide where the hinge is then gets narrow up towards the top. it doesnt affect the function but it is an annoyance. ill see what they say tomm. i miss my first 5791. that one had no issues aside from the small spot on the screen. i wish i would have just kapt it and done a screen swap now. it never shut down on me during 3dmark etc...

 

Well if it's turning itself off over and over while on battery, it should be a warrantee issue. Doesn't xotic pc deal with warrantee issues for all the notebooks they sell? If they're taking it back anyways maybe you can try to convince them to let you do the return. If not, send it to sager and try to get them to replace the cover while they're dealing with the battery issue.

I can see the dent in the blown up pic. You really should've returned this notebook. I don't think you were ever really that happy with this in the first place, just got tired of jumping around from notebook to notebook so you decided to settle with less than what you'd really wanted. You should not have settled at that particular point, right after you'd decided to go and shell out a bunch of extra bucks to try to ensure you'd get a flawless system.

 

the only time it shuts down while on battery is during heavy cpu or gpu use as others have also stated. so not sure if this will be something that ends up being normal or not with any of them. xotic does deal with warr but they simply tell me to call sager when i call them.

at this point its not scheduled to go anywhere id have to call sager and set it up or through xotic. and yes i should have just requested a return but i didnt and its def over 30 days now so i doubt xotic will take it back at this point.

and yes you are right i just needed a system and didnbt want to wait any more and i tried to like it. im sure the cover could be replaced but ive already spent way more than i wanted on shipping for the first one and now ill have to pay once again to send it in. and see if they can even duplicate the issue. it doesnt happen all the time as stated it is irratic when it does it.

overall im dissapointed in this system and i can not recc it at this point.

 

No, it's not normal. If a notebook randomly shuts down under heavy CPU or GPU use, that's a very serious functional issue, resulting in lost data and time. If it's "normal" with other sager 5791s then that is a serious design issue. This may be an unpopular opinion... but it sounds like xotic is just trying to hand you off onto someone else so they won't have to deal with it. I would be very annoyed and outright angry if I were in that situation, especially after showering them with accolades. Don't let anybody make you feel like you are a hassle about this battery/random shutdowns issue. You NEED to get that fixed. That is not being picky and that is not acceptable in any notebook. I notice you still have "style note" on it as well. Did they never send you the proper label? You spent a lot of money for name and reputation. You can't let yourself be treated this way. You at least need to have that functional issue resolved.

no they sent me the sager logo but it was oardered from xotic as a barebones system the reason for the sylte note badge i just have not changed it over yet.

i think i may know why the battery has a issue. im seeing now if i fixed that the pins on the notebook / battery were not lining up right. they were bent out a bit. i straightened them out and so far so good. im running 3dmark here in a minute. but if you saw the other's posting on the same issue about shutdown i cant say its normal. im super pissed about my lid though.. that is one thing i need to try to get them to fix for me now. i doubt they will send me out one though. and no way im paying all that shipping to send a whole system out for that if that is the only issue. ill def have to call sager tomm and find out.

 

it does not matter if you are outside of 30 days.... its not written in stone.

if there are any issues, you should contact your vendor to ask about it and state your dissatisfactions... which they should help remedy for you.

i will do this tomm ..it actually ran 3d mark this time im shocked,dont know if that fixed it or not but before i could not even get through 3dmark before it shut down on me and while yea id say its built better than the dell ones i honestly dont see where all the hype is around this system myself.. just my thoughts though. what do you think they will do at this time. im def not starting the shipping back and forth game again like i had to with dell not gonna happen.. if i know im getting a replacment fine but last time i had to pay shipping to sager and pay for the new system as well.. that sucks imo

 

zfactor, my 5791 also has a slight bend...I didn't notice it until you pointed out..well, after 4 laptops, I learned that it is extremely hard to find a perfect laptop, you know...
the thing about it turns off when you are on battery I think it is strange... after I read your post I tried to play Bioshock demo on battery till the laptop died. sorry I don't have such problem. but I remenber that you are running Vista 64, have you try the XP? though there are some issues I don't like about the 5791, such as, so far I still can't turn the SATA on, unknow device issue, msvcp80.dll error, no battery/cpu management software, etc, I still think it is a good pc. for example, after I installed the 2go 169.02 driver, the 3dmark06 score is up to 5120...
well, I hope you will be able to fix the problems or return it and get a new one, it's a 2k laptop after all.

well ive run 3d mark 06 now 6 times and have not had a shutdown. maybe this would be something to look into. one of my pins was badly bent and was barely making contact. maybe this was causing a low volatge issue?? cant be sure but ill try some games tomm and see what happens now. im still going to call about my lid and a few other issues.

 

the right side hinge of my 5701 is also very loose..I could shake it..I rescrew it and now it is better...try the Bioshock demo, I bet you will like it..

 

im going to try those drivers in a bit here. i agree fully about it lacking stuff for it costing as much as it does. i to want to see sata. what unkwon device issue do you have maybe i can help my system it was the ir port that caused the problem. i got the driver from sager website directly and that fixed the problem.

does the metal on your lid show the bend? especially when in a bright room??

the keyboard flex also bothers me i have a fix but i should not have to. my esc key now does the same thing the first keyboard did. and my y h and v keys sit crooked up higher on one side than the other. not bothered typing but it looks cheap. im def going to try for a new lid and possibly another keyboard again. im calling them tomm.

 

where did you screw it tighter? mine is also kinda loose on that side? thanks

 

Hey guys I get my 5791 today WOOOOHOOOO!!! Ill look and see If mine has a bent as well, and will have a review up in about a week or so....hopefully these "bends" aint a manufacturing issue, hope Sager is checking there lots IN QA before shipping out.....

zfactor, I hope your will fix all your problems soon. I was able to tight the hinge on the right side, because there is a big screw on the back...
among 169 drivers, the 169.02 works the best. maybe the 169.09 workes better but I am too tired to try.
for the bent, I guess I will avoid to move my 5791 around often..maybe that's the only way in stead of replace the lid.
I tried to install the IR driver to resolve the unknow device issue but doesn't work..and my card reader doesn't work right either..sager driver doesn't help. do you know anywhere else I can find a good xp drive for it?
