As the title says i was thinking that leaving the dgpu active for long periods of time with software like msi afterburner and nvidea inspector could wear it out quicker , maybe just the fans, but i wanted to know if anyone thinks the same or had any experiences like this

leaving it active should only be a problem if you already have some defective components on it (unlikely) or you're putting it under heavy stress and high temps.
Just having it active in afterburner/inspector does nothing other than refreshing the card and/or modifying clocks.
It's totally ok. -

You can have programs start on boot and then go away to set the clocks but allow the gpu to shut off.

Nothing so complicated, set msi afterburner restore clocks on startup but not start with windows I believe. You can put a clock shortcut from nvidia inspector in the startup folder too.

Nothing to really worry about. Consider a desktop computer or notebook computers before switchable graphics, they didnt burn out early from keeping it on.

good to know, i work shift work so i have a lot of time to think lol and the lack of sleep doesnt help

I'm using version 2.3.1 of MSI Afterburner so my GPU is always turned off, but this version doesn't show the right clocks or dirvers of the GPU.
The beta 18 version shows everything just fine and gives even more information, but it keeps the GPU always on, with the fans in a cycle of on and off.
Wish I knew how to configure it to work like 2.3.1, so the GPU woulds stay off while I'm not gaming, if its even possible. -

You are only going to get relevant information when the GPU is on, when it's off there is no temperature sensor active or clock speeds, it's all N/A.
-
Yes, but thats the point, this information is only really relevant when I'm gaming. When I'm just web browsing, youtube, watching a movie, etc, I dont want the GPU to be turned on for no reason, with the fans going on and off, which is pretty annoying.

Have a 1 click monitoring app then when the dgpu goes active. You should not need to constantly monitor the gpu only every so often.
-
I have both instaled and will have to live without the correct clock monitoring using MSI Afterburner 2.3.1, which starts with windows and I cant live without.
And when I plan to play games for the whole day and want to to give a better look on the statistics I can just close the 2.3.1 and open the Beta. Just wish I could use only the Beta instead. -
I use HWinfo64 to monitor my gpu. The nice thing is it will show some key stats on my logitech keyboard lcd display. And it doesn't force the dgpu on. And I use Nvidia Inspector to set a shortcut that I run to set my gpu. I use it to set max temps before throttling my gpu.

The beta works perfectly for me except for the power % is wrong idle is about 20% and load is 250% lol

And 2.3.1 won't work properly unless I have something open that already is using the dgpu

does leaving the dgpu active decrese lifespan of the dgpu?
