i heard usual threads on this forum about either the lcd, speakers, booting problems and as well some others, enough for me to rethink if i should really get a sager np2090. i know its a good machine and all but i just dont want to go through all that trouble getting one and finding out later that there are problems. i just dont want to pay shipping cost, customs or other fees being that im from canada it would be more of a hassle for me to get it fix. =more expenses less of my time. i know i sound really pesimistic but im just a really careful buyer.

what do you guys think, risk it?

what are these screen and speaker issues you speak of? boot problems are usually related to software problems. anyways, you see these problems because people are looking for solutions to them on the forum. how often will someone start a thread about their laptops working perfectly?

overall i like my NP2090, most of the problems i've had were related to Vista but it's worked itself out. if your unsure about your decision, you could always check out the Dell Inspirons or Vostros or the HP and Asus model equivalents to the NP2090.

I would say it's just like any other laptop that you will get. I've had my Sager np2090 since around August this year and it's been running perfectly with zero problems.

The only "speaker problem" I can think of is that the speakers actually built into the laptop are kind of muffled and muddy sounding, but that seems typical of most laptops, except maybe the Toshibas with Harmon Kardon speakers, and HPs with Altec Lansing, and maybe a handful of others others.

But this isn't really a problem for me, as I usually have my Sennheiser headset or JBL headphones on and they both sound great coming from the laptop.

It's a great, well-built laptop with fantastic performance for the cost.

Nothing really is wrong with the laptop. All the problems that I have faced were all Windows' fault. The laptop itself is a great machine of spectacular performance, decent quality, and a great price.

All the other problems you may have seen with the NP2090 are problems that other laptops have seen as well. No laptop is going to be perfect, and there will always be some "lemons".

The speaker problem might also be that some people have heard buzzing from the headphone jack, but solutions were found, and they were usually driver issues. I'm not sure about what screen problems you're referring to. Both the WXGA and WSXGA+ are considered to be great screens.

When i got mine, it had a boot problem but it just turned to be a loose RAM stick.

Aswell any other problems ive had aafterwards were due too, outdated drivers.

I've had my 2090 since october and it's be perfect so far. I haven't even had any real problems using vista 64. this laptop really is great for the price. my only real disappointment was learning that you cannot overclock the video card by flashing the bios. All the other laptops with the 8600gt are able to do this but apparently sager has something set you can't even save a copy of your current bios. regardless, overall its a great machine.

You're going to have no more problems with 2090 than with any other laptop. If you're using these forums to judge how problem-ridden the machine is, then that's a poor idea, since, as was already stated, you're just going to see problem threads here; no one would post just to say that their laptop is problem free for another day.

The microphone is horrible and barely usable, on mine at least.

I'm also not happy with the keyboard. The keys all have different feels to them. They also seem really flimsy and tend to squeak and make strange noises.

I'm happy with my Sager and have not encountered any issues with it. Actually the only issues have been vista 64 compatibility issues with a couple printers I have. I did of course follow the vista tweaks guide on these boards when I first got it so for the most part I'm happy with vista.

That's right. The built-in microphone is the crappiest. Have to use external headset to fix that.
I was actually thinking to modify this with other notebook maker's microphone, but have to find a way.

Overall, 90% satisfied. Good notebook, solid performance and great price, especially when you DIY.

No, microphone seems to be a hardware problem. So yeah, microphone bad. I had issues with my headphone jack as well. So that's a problem with the notebook. Some people don't like the keyboard; I think it's fine. Overall, it's a great laptop.

I haven't had any issues with mine at all...I do have to mention that the OP is a funny question. First thing that came to mind was "If i walk outside when it's lightning, will I get struck?" There is a possibility, just as there is a possibility that any laptop you get will be a brick, just someweird inherit trust thing we as consumers have to but in the product or company before we buy...just my thoughts :)

The microphone problem exists as a hardware issue due to design limitation (according to Compal, unexplained). And Compal is 100% responsible for this, not Realtek.

I agree with the microphone and the squeeky keys. If you type alot or play games (like I do) the wasd keys especially have this annoying mushy squeek to them now just from 5 months or so of use. It is very dissapointing. Then again, this is my first laptop so the keyboard issues could be common? Iunno...
